For this session your child will require: -

Task 1: Watch the story and complete the venn diagram

Chesters Way read aloud

Watch the story while paying particular attention to the similarities and differences between the two main characters; Chester and Lilly. During the story you can write some words down or draw pictures of what is happening in the book to help you remember.

Use the venn diagram to record your understanding of what similarities and what differences you noticed in the characters Chester and Lilly. You can write words in the circles or draw pictures. Use the right hand circle labelled Chester to write the things that only applied to chester eg. Mouse. Then use the left hand coloumn to record the things that only applied to Lilly and then use the overlapping parts of the circles to show what was the same about both characters.

Task 2: Read a book (or two!) on Active Learn

Active Learn

Active learn is an online platform that provides levelled books suited for the students, we would like you to read at least one book a day and this can be accessed on www.activelearnprimary.com.au

Their log in information should be at the back of their magic words book.

Task 3: Creative writing

Writing

Watch the clip from Mary Poppins. How does Mary Poppins travel?

Where would you fly to with your travelling umbrella? Would it be a real place or somewhere from your imagination? What would you do when you got there. Explain why you have chosen that certain place. Then draw a picture to match your writing.

Writer's checklist

(students are encouraged to pick 1-2 things to focus on during a writing session)

  • I have used lower case letters.

  • I have sounded out my words.

  • I have used full stops at the end of my sentences.

  • I have used finger spaces in between my words.

  • I have tried my hardest.

Optional task: Typing Practise

Practise recognising letters and finding them on your keyboard through playing type toss. To play this game you will require a laptop or computer.
