Task 1: Experimenting with Light: Shadow drawings

In our class meet, we talked about different light sources.

We learnt about natural light sources (e.g. sun) and artificial light sources that we have more control over (e.g. torch).

We discussed what happens when there is no light and what happens when we block out part of the light.

Now it's time for us to experiment!

For this activity you will need:

• a source of light - you could use a torch, lamp, or the sun on a sunny day

• pencil and paper or some chalk

• an object that you can't see through - something that blocks out the light

Activity:

Shine your light onto the object, so that it creates a shadow on your piece of paper (or the pavement if you are using chalk).

Trace around the shadow.

Can your family guess what the shadow is?
