Graphic Design, Creating a Logo Unit: Identity
This week we are to look at Graphic Design and how logos create identity. Logos are a symbol or other design adopted by an organization to identify its products. Graphic designers are artist who combine text and pictures to create logos and other images for companies, business, organizations and individuals. They also design brochures, web design, magazines, advertisements, product packaging, and posters. Using the elements of Art and Principles of design they can influence viewers buying choices as well as create memorable logos or symbols that become part of a shared cultural identity. This week your going to design your own personal logo. Watch the two youtube videos below before getting started.

What makes a Good Logo?
Simple in design
2. Easy to understand both at a distance, or shrunken down.
3. Uses limited color, sometimes just one or two colors
4. Any writing is presented in a simple way and is easy to read.
5. Can just be a simple drawing or image
Design your own Logo that represents YOU!
Brainstorm:
Think about your favorite logos, what do they have in common? What is your favorite color? What do you like to do? What is your personal style? These are some of the questions graphic design artist might think about when designing for clients. Understanding a company or organizations values helps a designer create a logo that represents an idenity.
Using your name, intials, or an original image you have created , sketch out 5 or more ideas for a personal logo onto scrape paper. Play with typography, size, shape and color.
Refine:
Choose one of your favorite logos that you've created and recreate onto your watercolor paper or computer. Add limited color using color pencils or your choice of art supplies,including digitially.
Submit:
Photograph both your brainstorm ideas and your final piece and submit to Artsonia. Be sure to also include an Artist statment into Artsonia!
