A Gesture Drawing is a study of the human figure in motion. If you have been in my class before you know we practice figure drawing every year. This is a skill like self portraits, that requires repetition. This is also a foundation we will build on in future lessons this month. Watch the following youtube video before getting started.
Directions
You will need a pencil and the long rectangular note pad provided to you during supply pick up. You will also need to ask a family member to pose for you.
Start by drawing the proportions of the figure standing straight and facing the viewer. Once you have an idea of how to use oval shapes to proportion the figure you can have family members pose in different active postions to practice. Examples, strike a Harry Potter pose, a runner, baseball player , swimmer, dancer, ect. Time yourself drawing for two to three minutes per pose. The goal is to work quickly to capture the pose. The more figures you draw the quicker and easier it gets and the better you get.
Draw 8-10 poses, then choose your favorite to photogragh and post to Artsonia. Have fun!
