This week we will end our Lunar New Year activities with the book, The Paper Dragon. Historically, the Chinese dragon was associated with the Emperor of China and used as a symbol of power and nobility as well as seen in a positive light and associated with life giving rains and water sources. This is in contrast to other world mythologies, where dragons are seen negatively. The book, The Paper Dragon, was written by author Marguerite W. Davol and is a story about a dragon set in China. It highlights the importance of community in difficult times but also misrepresents the dragon based on Chinese mythology. As you listen to the story think about how the author represents the dragon, is it good or bad? Is this this an accurate represention of a Chinese Dragon? After listening to the paper dragon make your own paper dragon!
