This week we will be looking at the illustrations of naturalist Maria Sibylla Merian. She was born in in Germany in 1647 and died in 1717 and was best know for her illustrations of insects and plants. Her most celebrated works were on insect development and the transformation of insects through the process of metamorphosis. As Maria did, you will be observing nature closely through drawing. All you will need is your Nature Journal and a pencil. Watch the following videos before getting started.
