Morfologia

Le dimensioni variano da quelle di un piccolo arbusto fino a quelle di un albero di 10 metri. È sempreverde. La corteccia di colore quasi nero, più o meno liscia. I rami sono eretti.

The dimensions vary from those of a small shrub up to those of a tree that can reach the 10 meters; it is evergreen, with almost black bark, more or less smooth. Its branches are erect.

Le foglie sono spesse e coriacee, di forma ovale, lunghe anche 10 centimetri, di colore verde scuro brillante sulla superficie superiore e verde più chiaro e opache su quella inferiore; i bordi appaiono ondulati e hanno un forte odore speziato.

The leaves are thick and coriaceous, of oval shape, even 10 cm long; they are bright dark green on the upper surface and paler green and opaque on the lower one; the edges appear wavy and have a strong spicy smell.

I frutti sono costituiti da piccole bacche nero brillante, con un seme subsferico, e maturano nei mesi di ottobre e novembre.

I fiori sono piccoli e di colore giallo-verdastro e compaiono nei mesi di marzo e aprile.

Sono riuniti in grappolo. Quelli maschili sono piccoli e gialli mentre quelli femminili sono bianchi.

The flowers are small and greenish-yellow and appear in March and April. They are grouped in a cluster: the male ones are small and yellow; the female ones are white.
