Location

Saint Lucia is next to the Caribbean Sea, the Atlantic Ocean , and the Saint Lucia Channel.

The absolute location is 13 53 N 60 58 W. Two important places in saint Lucia are Mt. Gimie and Castries.

The town of Soufrie're, Saint Lucia takes up a valley near two huge mounds of rock. A volcano formed the mounds a long time ago. Volcanoes erupting is not uncommon in this area.

Saint Lucia is 27 miles long with the population being 172,000.

Saint Lucia is divided into 11 districts and the districts are, Anse-in-raye, Canaries, Castries, Choiseul, Dauphin, Dennery, Gros-islet, Laborie, Micoud, Soufriere, and Vieux-fort.

The USA is about 15,964 times bigger than Saint Lucia.

History

This is a photo of Mount Gimie, which is the highest point in Saint Lucia. It is about 3,145 feet(959 meters) high.

Carib Indians lived on this island when Europeans arrived in about 1500. The French set up the first lasting settlement in 1650. The French and Great Britain fought for the control over the island in 1814, and then Britain won. The Europeans brought Africans with them to Saint Lucia to work as slaves on cotton and sugar plantations.

The country of saint Lucia was founded on February 22, 1979, and the motto is The land, the people the light.

The rainy season is May through August and the dry season January through April. The highest temperatures is about 88 degrees Fahrenheit and the lowest temperature is about 73 degrees Fahrenheit.

193 mm is the highest rainfall and 57 mm is the lowest rainfall, which might affect the country because it is surrounded by water and it might flood the island, and crops.
