History

Iceland was founded by Vikings thousands of years ago. It became a republic on June 17, 1944. In 2021 and 2010 a volcano erupted and closed the airlines so no one could travel anywhere. Iceland’s motto is “Petra reddas,” which translates to “It will always work out okay.” Many people in Iceland still believe in elves, trolls, and other mythological creatures from Norse/Celtic history.
