There are 4 grading categories: diagnostic formative, graded formative, minor summative, and major summative. The weighting of those categories in the gradebook is shown below.
Diagnostic Formative = 0%
Students present in class on the due date for a major summative are expected to submit it that class period. Tests must be completed in the time allotted by the instructor.
If a major summative is completed and/or submitted less than two weeks after the due date, not due to an absence, it is considered late and capped at 70%. (See retake policy.)
If a major summative is submitted two weeks or more after the due date, not due to an absence, it is subject to a 50% grade floor.
If absent on the due date for a major summative:
Electronic submissions are still due on the due date.
In-person submissions of assignments or tests must be completed by the next class period the student is present.
If not completed and/or submitted by the next class period the student is present, the summative is considered late and subject to the retake policy.
Major assignments submitted or made up due to absence two weeks or more after the original due date will be given a floor grade of 50%. The assignment would still be eligible for retake until the retake deadline.
Minors and Formatives will be accepted for full credit up until the associated test/major summative class period. After a major summative due date, any minors submitted will earn a floor grade of up to 50% and are still required to be completed in order for the student to be eligible for a retake.
Students must score below 70% AND complete all associated formatives and minor summatives to be eligible for a retake. At the teacher’s discretion, remediation work may also be required.
The maximum score on retakes is 70%.
For students scoring 70% or above on a major, an extension can be completed for up to 20% added to the original grade, for a maximum score of 90%.
All Formatives, Minor Summatives, and Test Revisions and Reflections need to be completed prior to the extension opportunity.
For students who have completed their eligible retake, an extension can also be completed for up to 20% added to the higher of the original test or retake grade, for a maximum total score of 90%.
All Formatives, Minor Summatives, and Test Revisions and Reflections need to be completed prior to retake and extension opportunities.
