Expectations for this course
Students are expected to have integrity in their work. By struggling to think through the material individually or in small groups, true understanding is more likely to occur. We hope to shift student focus from a product, such as a filled out note sheet, to the process of learning by actively thinking.
Students are expected to write down only that which they understand. If something doesn't make sense, they must take the initiative to seek an explanation from a classmate, a teacher, the website, or another internet resource. Students are encouraged to figure out how they learn best and pursue learning through all routes available.
In this class, time management is a key component. Students have a substantial portion of each block to complete their work in class. Students who stay focused and manage their class time well can usually earn a quarterly grade of 'B - C' without time outside of class. To earn an 'A,' most students will need some time outside of class to complete work. Students can come see me during my office hours for extra help. They are posted on the homepage of this website.Â
