"Starving student" box
We all know how difficult it is to concentrate when you are hungry and teenagers always seem to be hungry! In our class, we have a "starving student" drawer. Students can take food anytime and leave an I.O.U. Students who have food insecurity are not expected to leave an I.O.U. or replace the food. Everyone is welcome to take food when hungry. Donations are gladly accepted. Some suggestions are single serving packages of:
Fruit cups or applesauce
Dried fruit packets
Sandwich crackers**
Granola bars**
Trail mix**
Nuts **
Fresh fruit (very popular with students)
Flavored or white milk boxes
Individually wrapped cheese sticks
Individually wrapped meat sticks
Anything else you think would be good!
(I have a fridge to keep cold foods in.)
**At this age, students are good about reading labels if they have food allergies, so you don't need to worry.**
We would love to have guest speakers to help our students understand biology related careers. It would take less than two hours of your time. Please contact me if you might be interested or know of someone who might help us out.
