Answer to yesterday's Snow Day Extra Credit Challenge:

  • Yesterday, we had snow and rain that lasted for the day, and then moved on. It needed to be below freezing (32 degrees F) in the atmosphere for the snow to remain as snow flakes (ice crystals) between the cloud and the ground. Later in the day, the temperatures increased above freezing, causing the snow to turn to rain. The sudden onset and departure of the winter weather yesterday indicates a probable cold front.

Wednesday, February 20 - ❄️SNOW DAY!❄️

Announcements:

  • F block: your project will be due at the beginning of class FRIDAY. We will have SOME time in class tomorrow for you to finish it.
  • G, B blocks: your projects will be due at the beginning of next class. We will not present, but instead you will just turn them in to me.
  • All classes: EXTRA CREDIT ALERT! Anyone out there thinking about what we've been learning in class while playing in the snow today?
    • For extra credit: Email Ms. Barlev by 8 am tomorrow explaining what you think the conditions in the atmosphere needed to be for our snow day to occur. What did the temperature and pressure need to be like? Do you think any particular front created this weather? What changed today when the precipitation went from snow to freezing rain to regular rain?
