The title of your google doc matters.

It should say, "Name Period Position" for example

"Ellie C Jury" or "Josiah B Defense" or "Stone E Prosecution"

Your google doc should be 12 point font using Times New Roman or Arial, it should be double spaced and you should include an indention at the beginning of every new paragraph. If you want to use funky colors or fonts you can do so with the title of your paper. Otherwise, follow the guidelines above.

1. Sequencing:

Make a chart that shows the sequences (order) of events that happen in the plot. List 6-8 events and put them in order

2. Interpret:

Differences between people can cause conflicts and clashes. Why doesn't Margot interact with the other children? What causes the conflict between Margot and others? What kinds of conflict do you see in the story? Hint: Person vs. _____?

3. Analyze:

How do you explain what the children did to Margot, knowing how much the sun means to her? How might this experience affect both Margot AND the children who mistreated her?

4. Evaluate:

From what you know of her character based off of her behavior in the story, how do you think Margot will react when let out of the closet?

Should Bradbury have described what happens next or do you like the story as it is? Explain.

5. Create:

What do you think the title of the story means? Do you think it is a good title? Rename the story and explain your new title.

6. Analyze:

How does the setting of the story (including the school, planet Venus, and the weather) serve as a major plot element? Would there be a story if Bradbury's Venus had less extreme weather?

REST, MY CHILD!

Monday, November 5th

1. Complete your entire "Nothing Gold Can Stay" Project.

It should include your creative representation of the poem AND your three paragraph written response.

Please "share" your written response with me on Google Docs.

If you need more details on the assignment, read the wiki and click this handout link:

Friday, November 2

1. Complete your three paragraphs.

The first paragraph should explain how figurative language (simile, metaphor, allusion, hyperbole, assonance, personification, or alliteration) are used in the poem.

The second paragraph should explain what you think the theme of the poem is and why.

The third paragraph should interpret the meaning of the poem.

If you have a computer, type up your paragraphs in a google doc. Title the document and share it with me. Please title the document like the examples below. If you don't have a computer, no worries. I'll have laptops in class on Monday.

Firstname ClassPeriod NGCS

For example:

Clarke B NGCS

Jude F NGCS

Cate A NGCS

Here's some advice for paragraph three. This paragraph asks you to interpret the meaning of the poem.

In the third paragraph you should use the graphic organizer to explain what you believe the meaning of the poem is. You would use the first section to state what you think the meaning is. The second section you would explain the meaning. The third part of your paragraph should use evidence from the text to prove that you are right about points one and two. The fourth section should explain how the evidence supports the points you made in sections one and two. Go in depth. The fifth section should restate whatever you said in the first section using different words. I hope that helps get the gears moving.

Thursday, November 1

Robert Frost, 1874 - 1963

Nature’s first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf’s a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

1. Make a visualization for the poem "We Real Cool" by Gwendolyn Brooks on a blank sheet of paper

Add 2+ rhyming lines to the poem at the beginning, middle, or end. Be ready to share your new poem and your visualization with the class.

Remember visualization is a reading comprehension strategy that asks you to mentally imagine a part of the poem and then draw what you imagine after reading the poem. It might be helpful if you draw one or two lines that you like or that stick out to you the most.

This assignment is due in class on Thursday. Please use colored pencils, markers, or crayons in your drawing for full credit.
