Using Microsoft OneDrive

Microsoft OneDrive is a cloud storage application not unlike Google Drive, the main difference being that this is where all of the KHSD files, previously stored on servers at the district, will be from now on.

  • All of your KHSD files have been pre-uploaded for you.

  • Quickly share files with any other Microsoft accounts.

  • Saved to the cloud, access your files anywhere - at work, at home, or on your mobile devices.

  • It's free for anyone (with limited storage), even non-KHSD account holders, users just need to make a free Microsoft account (web-version/mobile app only).

Why the change?

OneDrive provides more protection against viruses, malware and other cyber-related issues. It offers automatic backup. Finally, your files that used to be only accessible on a school computer can now be accessed by you at home from a PC or a Mac or really any device with an Internet connection!

How to Use OneDrive

Just go to Office.com and sign-in with your KHSD login credentials to try it out. All Microsoft Office apps and the OneDrive icon are there too where you can see all your files. Any changes there will be synced to your school computer automatically!

OneDrive is the one that looks like a blue cloud on the left hand navigation bar. Once you've selected it, you'll be in all of your files you've previously loaded onto your on campus computer.

OneDrive operates very similarly to Google Drive or Microsoft File Explorer.

Tips for Going Back to School with OneDrive

  • When returning back to campus, once you login to your school computer, wait at least 2 minutes before accessing any documents. Once the icon in the lower right-hand corner of the computer screen transitions from gray to solid blue, the OneDrive initial set-up is complete.

  • If you find that accessing your files is slow, you may consider having your files to be backed on your school computer's hard drive in addition to staying in the cloud-based OneDrive Storage. To do this, click on the folder icon on the bottom of the screen. Right-click "Documents" and make sure that "Always keep on this device" is checked.

  • Similar to how Google Docs automatically saves your edits, if you would like Microsoft Word to do the same (or any other of the Office apps), be sure check if AutoSave is clicked on.

  • If you would like to go back to a previous version, Click on title of your document and you will find "Version History" to where you can find a previous version of the document you have worked on.
