Canvas for Parents and Students
The Kern High School District has made a major improvement for student accounts: Single Sign-On. This means that once you sign onto your account, you'll be signed in on all of your accounts - Office, Google, and Canvas!
There is a little bit of setup required on your end though - you need to set up your new password! Follow the instructions in the video and the section below to set up your new Single Sign-On Account.
Once you've done this, you'll be set to start your digital instruction.
Login information:
The first time you need to login to the Kern High School District SSO: go to Office.com first, and select "Sign in" in the upper right hand corner. Your Office.com username is your student email and your password has been reset to !YYYYMMDD for your birthdate.
Email - six-digit@kernhigh.org - 123456@kernhigh.org
Password - !YYYYMMDD - !20051201 (If the student's birthday is December 1st, 2005)
Now you're signed into Microsoft, Canvas, and Google Apps. Now you only need to sign in once! Simply navigate to those sites to access your apps. You may need to select a "continue" button when accessing Google or enter in your kernhigh.org email address before gaining access. This is simply to link your accounts.
All Kern High students have accounts set up in Canvas as part of enrollment. Students can access Canvas either online through the KHSD Canvas URL: https://kernhigh.instructure.com/login/saml or through the Canvas Student phone app. Canvas is supported on all major browsers on Windows, Apple macOS, and ChromeOS operating systems. Mobile browsers are not supported and it is recommended students use the app on mobile devices.

Parent Observer Setup
Parents can sign up as an observer in Canvas. Observers can link their Canvas account to their student's account so they can see assignment due dates, announcements, and other course content. Observers can view the course content but cannot participate in the course.
This lesson is for parents who do not have a Canvas account and want to observe their students in their courses. In order to create a Canvas account, you will need the Canvas URL associated with the Kern High School District. Direct Link: https://kernhigh.instructure.com/login/canvas
If you already have an account from your student's institution, log in to Canvas using the credentials given to you.
Notes:
To observe a student, you must have a student pairing code.
Once you have an account, you may be able to view student information through the Canvas Parent app. Access to the Canvas Parent app is controlled by the student's institution. If you already have an account from your student's institution as an observer, you can always view student information through the Canvas Parent app.
If you do not see the KHSD Logo, make sure you use this link.
STEP 1
Go to the KHSD Canvas URL and click the "Parent of a Canvas User?" link.
STEP 2
Enter your personal information, email address, and create a password. The Student Pairing Code is a six-digit number that should be provided to you by your school site, your student, or their teacher. This code contains numbers and letters and is CaSe-sensitive. Codes expire after seven days, so be sure to use them as soon as you get them or a new code will need to be generated. Your student can generate a new Student Pairing Code if they have access to their account.
STEP 3
Begin Observing! You will gain immediate access to your student's Canvas activities and course information. For more information about what you can do, see Canvas's Support Site.

Want Canvas on your mobile device?
Canvas developed apps for both Apple and Android devices for both parents and students. They are separate apps that have different features. Canvas recommends that students download and use the student app and parents download and use the parent app. Initial sign up for parents should still happen online at KHSD's URL: https://kernhigh.instructure.com/login/canvas. Students will use their Office.com login credentials used to log into school computers (not Chromebooks, standard PCs).
