Scanner Apps

There are quite a few apps out there to help turn your phone into a portable scanner so that you can scan documents and upload them to Google Drive, send them via SMS or email, or save them onto a computer for record keeping purposes.

The apps below are well received online but your mileage may vary.

These are separated into the two main mobile operating systems - Apple iOS and Android, but many apps can be found on both (both third-party options are available on either platform).

Apple iOS Products

Notes

iPhone users already have a handy document scanner built into their phone in Notes. When you open a new note, tap the “+” icon then “Scan Documents”. You then scan multi-page documents using the Notes app, make adjustments to make it look more “scanned”, and even add your signature to a given document.

How to use Apple Notes from Apple Support

Scanbot offers excellent scan quality, solid text recognition, an elegant but simple interface, and ample sharing options. It can share with these different services directly from the app: iCloud Drive, Dropbox, Box, Evernote, WebDAV and more.

Google Drive Scan

Not many people realize this but you can actually scan documents directly onto Google Drive using the app. There's an option under the "+" sign when you have opened Google Drive.

Here's how the Google Support Team recommends you do it!

Tiny Scanner is another popular scanning app that is easy to use and automatically saves the file as a PDF. These can then be uploaded to Google Drive or sent through an email account on your phone.
