There are many organizations out there doing their level best to help educators parents and students stay on track during these challenging times.

Some of these come in the form of apps, others are websites, some are TV channels, in whatever form works best for you and your students. These resources can be comprehensive - covering everything from lesson plans to day-by-day activities; or they can be supplementary - filling in the gaps.

Frequently Used Resources

Tutor.com is a service by The Princeton Review that provides 24/7 live, online tutoring services to students in any subject. Tutoring can be done via text or video chat and all tutors are highly trained professionals that can support students with any needs they might have. This includes reviewing concepts, homework assistance, essay review, and study help for upcoming tests.

Zoom is now the gold-standard video conferencing app used across the nation for live online video instruction. This versatile software is capable of hosting large groups at once as well as utilizing a wide range of tools like screencasting, digital whiteboards, breakout rooms, and much more.

All Subjects Resources

Clever is a learning resource management platform. It's primary focus is on collecting and collating resources for your classes. These resources take the form of various popular apps that teachers use in their classrooms. The power of Clever comes from it's Single Sign-On capabilities and the ability to push apps to students who are logged in (force open) and pull students out of an app no longer needed (force close).

Wide Open School by Common Sense

"Curated and coordinated by the experts at Common Sense, Wide Open School is the result of a collaboration among leading publishers, nonprofits, and education and technology companies. Wide Open School features a free collection of the best learning experiences and activities for kids, organized by grade band and subject. You will also find daily schedules with creative breaks and recommendations to keep kids engaged and exploring, one day (or one hour) at a time."

To support the millions of students, parents and teachers affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, TED-Ed is working with expert educators and TED speakers throughout the world to create and share high-quality, interactive, video-based lessons on a daily basis, for free. The standard TED-Ed site is also an excellent resource.

"California offers — at no cost to local schools, districts or students — access to online educational content from Encyclopaedia Britannica, ProQuest and TeachingBooks.net for use by every public K-12 school and student in the state.

NOVA by PBS

NOVA is the most-watched prime time science series on American television, reaching an average of five million viewers weekly. Now in its fourth decade of production, the series remains committed to producing in-depth science programming in the form of one-hour documentaries and long-form mini-series, from the latest breakthroughs in technology to the deepest mysteries of the natural world. NOVA is produced by WGBH Boston and airs Wednesday nights at 9/8c on most PBS stations.
