Join Us for Morning Meetings at Red Hill!
Every day at Red Hill, students start their day with a Morning Meeting — a gathering that builds community and sets a positive tone for learning. Once a month, the whole school comes together for a school-wide Morning Meeting. This special tradition brings all students, from Pre-K to Grade 5, together to share. We warmly invite families to join us and experience the joy and connection of these gatherings.
Our next School-Wide Morning Meeting is tomorrow, September 19th at 8:10 AM. Be on the lookout for more dates, as we will have one meeting each month. We hope you can join us!
We have a special seating area just for families. Please bring your ID and arrive early to check in at the front entrance. Your presence makes these events more special and helps strengthen our school community.

At Red Hill, ensuring the safety of our students, staff, and visitors is our top priority. One key element in achieving this is practicing emergency preparedness drills. These drills equip everyone with the knowledge and confidence to respond quickly and effectively during an actual crisis.
Why Are Drills Important?
Emergency drills play a vital role in creating a safe and secure learning environment. By practicing scenarios such as fire evacuations, lockdowns, or severe weather events, we minimize confusion and ensure that everyone understands their roles and responsibilities. Repetition helps instill the proper actions, making emergency responses second nature.
Types of Drills We Conduct
At [Red Hill Elementary], we regularly conduct the following drills:
Fire Drills: Practiced monthly, fire drills ensure that students and staff know the fastest and safest ways to exit the building.
Lockdown Drills: Held twice a year, these drills prepare the school to handle potential security threats, such as an intruder on campus.
Severe Weather Drills: Tornado drills teach everyone where to seek shelter and how to stay safe in dangerous weather.
Bus Evacuation Drills: Conducted semi-annually, these drills focus on safe procedures for evacuating school buses during emergencies.
What Happens During a Drill?
Each drill starts with an announcement or alarm, signaling the procedure’s beginning. Teachers guide their classes through the necessary steps, whether it’s evacuating the building, securing the classroom, or sheltering in place. After each drill, our crisis management team reviews the effectiveness and makes adjustments to improve response times and procedures. Families can assist by discussing the importance of these drills with their children, reinforcing their seriousness and helping students stay focused. Together, we create a safe environment for all, building confidence in our ability to handle any situation that may arise.

Estos simulacros preparan a todos con el conocimiento y la confianza para responder rápida y eficazmente ante una crisis real.
¿Por qué son importantes los simulacros?
Los simulacros de emergencia desempeñan un papel vital en la creación de un ambiente de aprendizaje seguro y protegido. Are you interested in directly hearing from the ACPS Superintendent, understanding decisions and new programs, and making a difference in our schools? If so, consider becoming Red Hill’s representative on the ACPS Parent Council!
The Parent Council meets monthly and provides an opportunity to:
Share your perspective and represent Red Hill at each meeting.
Gather questions and input from Red Hill families to bring to the Council.
Share important information and resources with our school community and PTO.
Communicate with Mrs. McCullen to address issues specific to Red Hill.

HER Sports Day: Celebrating Girls in Sports
HER Sports Day: Celebrating Girls in Sports
HER Sports Day is set for September 21, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Albemarle Boys & Girls Club in Charlottesville, VA. This event is dedicated to empowering girls through sports, music, and interactive workshops.
Highlights of the Day:
Sports Clinics and Workshops: Participants can explore various sports like basketball, soccer, and lacrosse, and attend workshops on teamwork, leadership, and wellness.
Flag Football Tournament: The day concludes with a flag football tournament from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., offering a fun and engaging environment for all skill levels.
Music and Activities: Music and other fun activities will keep the energy high throughout the event.
The first 50 girls to register and attend will receive an exclusive swag bag filled with goodies. This community event encourages girls of all abilities to discover new sports, build confidence, and enjoy a day of active fun. Registration details are available via the QR code on the flyer.

Día Deportivo HER: Celebrando a las Niñas en los Deportes
El Día Deportivo HER se llevará a cabo el 21 de septiembre de 2024, de 10 a.m. a 3 p.m. en el Albemarle Boys & Girls Club en Charlottesville, VA. Este evento está dedicado a empoderar a las niñas a través del deporte, la música y talleres interactivos.
Destacados del Día: Clínicas Deportivas y Talleres: Las participantes podrán explorar varios deportes como baloncesto, fútbol y lacrosse, y asistir a talleres sobre trabajo en equipo, liderazgo y bienestar.
Torneo de Fútbol Bandera: El día concluye con un torneo de fútbol bandera de 3 p.m. a 5 p.m., ofreciendo un ambiente divertido y atractivo para todos los niveles de habilidad.
Música y Actividades: Música y otras actividades divertidas mantendrán la energía alta durante todo el evento.
