Governor Glenn Youngkin has signed a new order to help make Virginia’s schools safer and healthier by creating cell phone-free environments in all K-12 public schools by 2025. The idea is to help students focus better and avoid distractions during the school day.
At Red Hill Elementary, we already prioritize student well-being and success. Here’s a reminder of our rules about using cell phones and devices:
During the School Day: All devices, including smartphones, smartwatches, earbuds, and headphones, must be turned off and kept out of sight until the end of the school day. The school and school division are not liable for loss or damage.
Bus Safety: Each driver decides whether or not their elementary riders may use technology on their bus. When riding the bus students are expected to follow all transportation rules.
If a student needs to call home, they can always ask their teacher, who will send them to the front office to make the call.
These rules are in place to help students focus on learning, protect their mental health by reducing distractions, and ensure everyone’s safety during the school day.
To learn more about our cell phone policies and digital citizenship, visit the “For Students” section on our website at www.k12albemarle.org.
By working together, we can make our school a safer and more focused place to learn!

Red Hill Elementary invites you to play an active role in shaping our school’s future by joining one of our committees. Whether your passion lies in engaging families, supporting staff, or enhancing outdoor learning, there’s a place for you!
Committees You Can Join:
Family Engagement Committee: Help plan family reading, math, and multicultural nights, and collaborate on selecting a book for the school-wide read.
Staff Wellness Committee: Support our staff by planning activities that foster a positive and supportive environment, contributing to a sense of belonging in our school community.
Outdoor Learning Committee: Build on our outdoor learning initiatives and assist in planning a showcase at Spring Family Night.
Student Activities Committee: Create exciting and memorable experiences for our students during the school day and explore ways to involve families in these activities.
How to Get Involved:
If you're interested in joining a committee, please contact Nancy or Gene. We’re currently working on setting dates and exploring childcare options to make it easier for families to participate. Expressing interest doesn’t mean you’re committed—just let us know if childcare would be helpful, and we’ll keep you updated on the details.
Your involvement can make a real difference in our school community!
At the beginning of each school year, we request that parents and guardians update their registration information. This process is completed using a pre-filled registration form that uses data that is already in our student information system (PowerSchool). Parents/guardians review that information and make any necessary changes. In addition, this process provides you the ability to provide responses to any required annual agreements and permissions.
The registration verification form is available now and is accessed through the PowerSchool Parent Portal. Stay tuned for morning information The form will close on Friday, September 27.

Morning Drop Off and Afternoon Pick Up is a busy and exciting time here at Red Hill. If you choose to drive your child to school, here is some important information to know and consider:
Drop off begins at 7:45 a.m. Please stay in your vehicle until staff arrives. Staff will assist with door opening if needed.
Ensure jackets, backpacks, and other items are ready beforehand to expedite the drop off process.
Follow the traffic director's instructions, pulling forward in the drop-off lane. Children exit the car on the passenger side along the drop-off sidewalk, avoiding unsupervised crossings.
Wait for complete car stops before allowing your child to exit. Typically, 4-5 cars can unload at once.
Drop-off closes promptly at 7:55 a.m. when staff make their way inside to begin instruction in classrooms. If no staff member is present, park and walk your child(ren) to the main entrance to check them in.
Please do not park in the bus loop. Vehicles left idle/unoccupied are subject to ticketing by ACPD.
If you'd like to walk your child to the entrance, please park in designated spaces and accompany them to the exterior door at the main or drop-off entrance to say your goodbyes.
Red Hill Elementary meals will remain free, via the CEP program, for the 24-25 school year. Please note:
One breakfast and one lunch, per student, per day will be free.
Any additional meals or items such as an extra entree, chips, ice cream, milk or bottled water will be charged according to the a la carte price. These items will be charged to your student’s lunch account number. Funds should be added via the www.myschoolbucks.com website.
