This week, we’re highlighting the important work of Ms. Baylink, Red Hill’s Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) Coach. She helps students build skills that support learning and well-being, including self-awareness, cooperation, and problem-solving.
Ms. Baylink teaches SEL lessons in classrooms and in our library using the CARES curriculum, which focuses on five core values: Cooperation, Assertiveness, Responsibility, Empathy, and Self-control. These lessons help students practice how to work well with others, express their needs respectfully, take ownership of their choices, show kindness, and manage strong emotions.
A key part of Ms. Baylink’s work involves using puppets to engage with younger students. These puppets are not just for fun—they are a research-supported strategy that helps children feel safe, heard, and more willing to express themselves. Through puppet stories and conversations, students are able to explore real-life challenges and practice new skills in a developmentally appropriate way.
We are thankful for Ms. Baylink’s thoughtful and caring approach. Her work supports both students and staff in making Red Hill a connected and compassionate place to learn.
At Red Hill, we deeply value the partnership between families and our school. To help us learn and grow, we are asking all families to take the ACPS Family School Relationship Survey.
This short survey asks about communication, school climate, and how we work together to support your child. Your feedback is very important to us. We use the results to make real improvements at Red Hill.
You can take the survey at home or stop by the front office to use the survey kiosk. A QR code is also posted at the front entrance for quick access.
Click here to take the survey in English: https://surveys.panoramaed.com/acps/family/surveys

We truly rely on this input to build a better school for every child. Thank you for sharing your voice!

We need help making our schoolyard beautiful! We have planted vegetables, flowers, shrubs and trees around the schoolyard. This spring, we hope to add some new spaces such as a Three Sisters Garden, a “hammock haven”, a labyrinth area, a nature study area next to the Hardware River and more! We especially need:
carpenters
gardeners
landscapers
people who would enjoy helping teachers with outdoor lessons
bird, wildlife and plant lovers
engineers
landscape architects
people who would like to help water our gardens when it’s dry
a group to help clear out the weeds and set up seats near the river
Please contact our Outdoor Learning Coordinator, Eileen Merritt (leenmerritt@gmail.com) or send a note to your child’s teacher if you’d like to help. Just tell us what you’d like to help with and how to contact you. Our children are so happy when they are playing or learning outdoors in the beautiful spaces you’ve helped create!
