NEW! District Food Service

Hello Ralston Valley Students and Staff! Your kitchen manager, Jeany Frederickson, is working hard to provide you with meal and a la carte options while short-staffed. We are currently following a modified menu that relieves some of the labor required for the main menu. We are offering a cold and a hot entrée daily.

Monday: Chicken Sandwiches or Anytimers

Tuesday: Bean & Cheese Burrito or Yogurt Meal (or Parfait)

Wednesday: Twisted Cheese Breadsticks or Anytimers

Thursday: French Toast Sticks or Yogurt Meal (or Parfait)

Friday: Cheese Calzone or the Protein Pack (Hard-Boiled Egg, Muffin, and Honey Roasted Sunflower Seeds)

Please note that given our current supply chain inconveniences, an entrée may be substituted with little or no notice.

A La Carte snacks and beverages are still available.

Thank you for your patience and grace as we find employees to staff the kitchen and return you to our regular menu!

A course titled 'Tutorial' connected to the teachers of students was recently added to student schedules.  When a student is expected to attend I.C.E., attendance will be taken and families notified of absences.

athletics

Volleyball swept Boulder on Tuesday Night for Super Hero Night at the Mustang Range.  Another big crowd with a lot of school spirit.

Soccer battled #6 Denver East all the way to the end before falling 2-1 on a warm night out at NAAC.

Cross Country performed well at last weekend's Lightning Invite.  Top ten finishes by both teams with girls taking 3rd.  They look to carry that momentum into this weekend's Bernie Gay Invite hosted by Centaurus.  Good Luck!!!

Softball finished 1-1 this week scoring a win against D'Evelyn, and falling to a tough Cherokee Trail team.

Tennis battled with Bear Creek and Chatfield this week, scoring 7-0 and 6-1 victories.  They are currently in Grand Junction playing in a tough weekend tournament.

Football returned this weekend from Florida following a 41-6 victory over Colonial High.  A good out-ofstate win to prepare them for tonight's game against #2 Grandview.

Activities

Lisa Nelson 5K Mustang Stampede

Please join us to help raise money for this amazing scholarship!

Learn more about the scholarship at: https://www.lisanelsonmemorialscholarship.org/

Advisement Corner

Ninth Grade Advisement

Next week in Advisement, our students will focus on three Intentional Structures that we believe build a strong platform for freshman academic needs.

Intentional Structure #1: ICE (Intervention, Collaboration, Enrichment) ICE is offered on Tuesday and Thursday mornings to all students. Teachers are available in their rooms for any academic help a student may need.

Intentional Structure #2: Off Block is a time when students can find a quiet place to work on homework and organize their time.

Intentional Structure #3: Student Success Center was created for students who have two or more D's and F's. This class will take the place of a student's off block so they can get the necessary support needed to raise their grade back to good standing.

Students will also have the annual Vision and Hearing screening.

RVHS Advanced Placement Exam Information

The $96 exam fee for AP testing will be posted to student fee accounts on Jeffco Connect the week of September 12th.  The AP exam fees will be due on Friday, October 14th.

These fee deadlines are set to ensure adherence to the College Board's practice of handling AP registration and exam logistics in the Fall rather than the Spring, which had been common practice until changes were instituted a few years ago.

Please direct any questions or concerns about AP exam fees or deadlines to Mr. Merkel (Counselor) at  scott.merkel@jeffco.k12.co.us.

Senior Seminar

Earlier this week, all Seniors and their families received an email with details about Senior Seminar. Seniors received a separate email from their counselor about their assigned location and time for Session 1. There will be four face-to-face sessions over the course of the next couple of months. In addition to the in-person meetings, students will also need to complete various assignments in Schoology to support their postsecondary pathway. In order to receive credit for the course, students will need to complete everything by December 9, 2022.

Senior Interviews

Every year our seniors have the opportunity to run through mock interviews with members of the community, the culmination of a unit that focuses on college and job applications, resume building, and interview skills. We need volunteers to help interview over 300 seniors!  We are looking for volunteers to commit to either a half day (7:30-11:00/11:30-3:00) or a full day on September 21 and/or 22; each session would contain up to 10 student interviews and we will provide guidance on questions and scoring/feedback.

Please contact Erica Fulton at erica.fulton@jeffcoschools.us if you're interested or have any questions

September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month

While all of September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, September 10 is World Suicide Prevention Day. It's a time to remember those affected by suicide, raise awareness, and focus efforts on directing treatment to those who need it most. Suicide continues to be a major public health concern in the United States, around the world, and especially in Colorado. Help prevent suicide by learning the facts and increasing your awareness through these resources.

ralston valley happenings

Kathy Penn was recently awarded the prestigious Ralston Valley High School Chemistry Teacher of the Week Award!

In Algebra 2 Honors, students gathered data, ran linear regressions, and made predictions using their equations. They used their new knowledge to decide how many rubber bands were needed to bungee Barbie as close to the ground without bonking her head. One group came so close her hair touched the ground but her head did not!

For their first meeting of the year, RVHS Deutschklub held a Gummibärolympiade (Gummy bear Olympics).   Students had to build the highest structure with gummy bears and toothpicks, compete in the gummy bear relay race,  see whose gummy bear got the furthest using a catapult, and answer questions about gummy bears and the Olympics.
