Dress Code

As the warmer weather approaches, we would like to take this opportunity to remind our community of our school dress code.  Ralston Valley places a tremendous emphasis on academics, and we feel it is critical to keep a learning environment that promotes safety and professionalism.  We feel that dress is a form of self-expression, and know that different environments are appropriate for different types of dress.  Please remind your student to keep their attire professional while at school by following our school dress code.  For specific details or questions, you can visit our school handbook, contact the Dean, or speak to your student's grade-level Administrator.

Juniors- Colorado Measures of Academic Success (CMAS Science)

Juniors will be participating in CMAS Science during the school day in their science class on March 28/29, March 30/31, and April 4/5.  Instruction will occur when the testing session is over.  For information on the Colorado Measures of Academic Success (CMAS), please see this flyer. Science teachers will be communicating with students about the exact testing schedule, the coinciding class schedule, and their room assignments for CMAS.  Please ensure that students come to school with a charged, school-issued Chromebook.  Students will not be able to access the assessment software with other personal devices. If you have any questions about CMAS, please contact your student’s counselor or grade-level administrator.

athletics

The 2023 Spring Season is officially in full swing!!

Our Track and Field team hosted the Mustang Invite last Friday.  This was the first meet of the year for Ralston Valley and most of the other attending schools.  Many personal records were set to start the year and the team performed great.  See other highlights from our track team below.

Our soccer team had a successful trip to the Western Slope last weekend.  They beat a ranked Durango team 8-0 on Friday and followed that up with a 3-0 victory over Fruita Monument on Saturday.

BLAX went to the Western Slope as well.  They beat Fruita Monument on Friday and then were rained out for their Saturday game against Grand Junction.  The game between these two teams will be made up at Battle Mountain High School in April.

Tennis left the Western Slope Invite unsure of their final placement but saw a lot of great tennis from all of their lines.  All seven lines placed.  Five made it to finals and two (1 and 3 singles) took first.  They followed that up with a sweep of Denver East earlier this week.

Baseball took a 3-2 lead into the final inning on opening day against Arapahoe before falling 7-3.  Even though it was not the outcome they had hoped for, it was a great game.  They are back in action today at Monarch.  The boys will also be heading to Arizona over Spring Break for four games.  Good luck!

Swim and Dive continue to be strong.  Colby Garrison (diving) and Lincoln Marschner (500 free) join the growing list of Mustangs that have qualified for the State Meet.  They will take on Columbine and Valor tomorrow morning in a big league triangular.  This could be a preview of the top finishers at our league meet later on.

Wednesday night, our Girls and Boys Lacrosse programs got together for their annual Lacrosse program team dinner.  For the second straight year, our programs used this as a way to build comradery while supporting our greater community.  The two programs brought in food for Arvada High School's food pantry.  They filled two SUV's worth of food to help out students at Arvada High School in need of extra support.  Arvada High School and their students were very appreciative of the extra effort put in by our students to make Arvada a great community.

Special Dedication at the Track Meet

The 300 hurdles races were dedicated to former Ralston Valley High School 300 hurdle athlete Cameron Holland. Cameron tragically lost his life in a car accident the morning of December 7, 2019. Cam was a celebrated athlete, leader among his peers, and friend to many. Cam's legacy continues through community outreach via the Click It For Cam campaign, reminding drivers of the importance of wearing seatbelts and making positive choices. Cameron's family is here today to award the boy and girl winner of the 300 hurdle races.

The winners of the 300 were Junior Kyle Phipps (RV - pictures) and Kelsey Shore (Chatfield).  Cameron's mom Kristine (pictured) was on hand to congratulate the winners.

Mustangs Compete at National Level

Junior Ella Brooks competed this past weekend at the New Balance Nationals Indoor Track & Field Meet (Boston, MA). After a back and forth battle with the top seed, Ella came out victorious and is the 2023 New Balance Nationals Indoor National Champion in the weight throw. Her winning throw was 54' 3.75" (16.54m). Watch Ella's post competition interview.

Senior Augden Tacha also competed last weekend in Boston. She finished 3rd place in the Rising Stars Division of the high jump at 5' 3.25".

Congratulations to Ralston Valley Alumni, Ben Sampson on becoming an NCAA Division II National Champion in both the 200-yard Medley and 200 backstroke.  Ben was also named the NCAA National Division II Men's Swimmer of the Year! Ben swims for Colorado Mesa in Grand Junction. Congratulations Ben!
