Ralston Valley e-Sports

Congratulations to our Rocket League team for making it to the CHSAA state playoffs and for their first-round upset of 11th-ranked Cedaredge HS this past week!  Shout out to Jake Rodriguez-Ashe, Ashlyn Hoyer, Brock Mast, and Willow Ayers for doing so well in the first CHSAA-sponsored season of E-sports!

Robotics Club

Congrats to the RV Robotics Team! Last Saturday they competed against 30+ teams in the Rocky Mountain BEST Robotics competition. It was a slow start, but some engineering on the fly helped them finish strong. They placed 2nd overall in the robot competition and 3rd place overall in the BEST Award (which includes engineering notebook, marketing presentation, exhibit presentation, and spirit & sportsmanship). They were presented with a robot challenge in September and had eight weeks to build a robot from scratch in order to compete. About 12 students worked really hard after school and on the weekends to come up with a very competitive bot. Way to go Mustangs!

National Honor Society Service Project

Senior Aayla Stolte, pictured below, led NHS members in creating bookmarks for Lawrence Elementary students as an in-school service project.

Student Government

Student Government organized Thanksgiving baskets for families in the RV community, from donations collected by 30 classes, along with gift cards donated by King Soopers.  All extra food and toiletries were donated to the Arvada Community Table. RV Student Government is grateful for the opportunity to give some extra love to families in our community for the coming holiday!

athletics

While the Winter Sport Season began practices and tryouts this week, our football, dance, and cheer teams were out competing.

Ralston Valley's Spirit Teams went 5 for 5 in taking home league championships this week.  Wednesday saw our Dance team take home first place in both the Varsity and JV Poms divisions at the Jeffco Invite.  Thursday saw our Varsity and JV teams win both of their divisions in Traditional Cheer and our all Freshman team took first place in JV Game Day.  Congratulations to all of these young women and their coaches.  Good luck on your way to State in December!

Following last week's playoff win over Chatfield, our football team has been busy preparing for this Saturday's quarterfinal matchup out at NAAC.  The #3 Mustangs will take on #6 Columbine.  The kickoff is at 1:00 p.m. Ralston Valley previously won the regular season matchup in a thriller. To get out of the cold on Thursday night, the team was able to practice at the CU Indoor Practice Facility.  Good luck this weekend Mustangs!

off campus policy

Due to the nature of our campus, we do not allow students to walk off campus during the school day.

9th-grade students are not allowed off campus at any point during the school day unless they leave with their parent/guardians.

If your 10th-grade student is driving, they may leave campus with parental permission.  They are expected to follow local and state driving laws.  Please click on this FORM to give your sophomore child the ability to leave campus with your permission.

Our campus is not closed to our 11th and 12th-grade students and they may leave campus.

Advisement Corner

Ninth Grade Advisement

We are thankful for the week-long break next week. We are hopeful our students can rest and reset. When the ninth-grade students return, they will start their week with Advisement focusing on the Toy Drive and Advisement surveys.

Monday, November 28th in Advisement, our students will reflect on the why, the what, the who, and the how behind the Toy Drive.

The Toy Drive was adopted by Cameron Holland's family in 2019. Cameron Holland, an RV student, and athlete passed away before the holiday season. The Holland family is tightly involved in the RV community; granting a scholarship to a senior student-athlete each year, raising awareness for vehicle safety, and sponsoring a toy drive in memory of their son-making it more than just about toys.

We are excited to incorporate this into Ninth Grade Advisement. Our hope is to instill empathy and service as we learn about values.

Ninth Grade Advisement Attendance

As we look towards the last few sessions of Advisement this semester, we wanted to take a moment to remind you of the attendance requirement for Advisement and share with you some opportunities that students will have to make up absences.

As communicated previously with students, they cannot miss more than four classes of Advisement, out of the 14 scheduled Silver Days this semester, to receive a passing grade.  If a student reaches five absences, excused or unexcused, they will automatically fail.  As you may remember, students will receive a pass/fail grade and receive .125 credit for a passing grade.

To determine your student's current number of absences, please look in Parent Portal or ask your student to connect with their Advisement teacher on Monday, November 28th.

To support students, we are going to offer make-up sessions for 9th graders who wish to make up missed classes.  These sessions will occur in room L1101 from 3:15 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on the following dates:

Tuesday, 11/29
Thursday, 12/1

Monday, 12/5

Wednesday, 12/7

Wednesday, 12/14

Students do not need to RSVP and can simply show up to the sessions.  If students have any questions, they can connect with Mr. Ackerman, Assistant Principal, in person or via email (mike.ackerman@jeffco.k12.co.us).

Thank you for your continued support of Ralston Valley's mission and vision and our desire to support the whole child.

Counseling Department

Outdoor Lab Needs Leaders!

Outdoor Lab is looking for high school leaders! Each year, every 6th grade student in Jeffco has the opportunity to attend Outdoor Lab. High school leaders help support the teachers and staff during this weeklong mountain adventure. We still need to fill spots for the spring semester, and we are really in need of male volunteers! If your student is in 11th or 12th grade (in certain cases, 10th graders are included) and would like to be a leader, encourage them to see Ms. McGlone in the counseling office for an application. Leaders earn 0.5 credit or 78 hours of community service for their work.

Jeffco Virtual Academy Applications

Jeffco Virtual Academy (JVA) applications for 2nd semester are open in Enroll Jeffco and will close on December 2nd at 3:00 p.m.  For more information on enrollment in a JVA class, click here.

Resource: Robbie's Hope

Each month, a group of students from RV's Student Government will be highlighting a resource for students and their caregivers:

Robbie’s Hope is an organization that has a goal to empower the next generation to cope with the stress and pressure of modern society and to help teens recognize warning signs of mental health issues and realize they are not alone. The organization's main goal is to cut teen suicide rates in half by 2028. Over the next few months, we will be incorporating information on how you (a parent or trusted adult) can make an impact on your child’s mental health. See more information on the website or listen to our introduction podcast, which is also on the website.

Anatomy and Physiology students listened to paramedic /EMT/firefighter, Mike Roluti, present in special topics of the Cardiovascular system. He took an EKG of Joy Heeb’s heart and our class learned how it can be used as a diagnostic tool and how to read the results.

Junior Cherisse Cassell has become a master potter this year in Ceramics class.  Here is a small sample of her rather large pots.

Students in Ms. Davidson's SSN classroom visited Warren Tech's Horticulture program on Wednesday, November 16th to learn more about farming and gardening.  The class will use some of the knowledge they gained to help them get their Carnation Cart off the ground in December.

Congratulations to senior Gavin Zborowski, signing with the College of William and Mary for Division 1 gymnastics.  He placed 11th in the nation for his age group in August, well done!
