Girls Basketball came through with a big win this week on the road at Mountain Vista.  The #8 ranked Mustangs look to start league play strong when they take on Arvada West tonight as part of a doubleheader with the boys program.

Boys Basketball fell in their league opener 57-53 against Valor.  A really good matchup of two of Jeffco's top teams.  They will play again in a few weeks.  They return to action tonight against Arvada West.

Hockey plays #1 Monarch tonight at APEX at 8:00 in what should be a great matchup.  Last week they beat Fort Collins 5-2 and came up short in their rematch against Valor losing 4-2.

Wrestling won their home dual on Thursday against Valor Christian.  The 38-38 final score had to go to the 9th tiebreaker to determine a winner and the Mustangs came out on top.

The Mini Mustangs Cheerleading Camp is coming up on January 24th and 26th with a performance on January 27th.  The $60 registration fee includes a t-shirt, hair bow, sparkly poms, picture with your favorite cheerleader, group photo, and snacks.  Please click on the link below to register.  Registration deadline is January 18th.

Ninth Grade Advisement

This past week in Advisement, 9th graders completed the ICAP. On an exciting note, MMP (Mustang Mentor Program) mentors are leading their advisement classes through engaging activities meant to get the students active and/or connected to each other. This will be done weekly for the entire second semester. We are hoping to continue to build community and teach students the importance of relationship-building.

Counseling Department

9th Grade ICAP

This week during Advisement, counselors led 9th graders through their yearly ICAP.  Students completed a learning preferences inventory and begin to work on their resume.  If you have a 9th grader, ask them what the survey told them about how they most like to learn and study!

Resource: Robbie's Hope

Each month, a group of students from RV's Student Government will be highlighting a resource for students and their caregivers.  This month is a continuation of December's resource:

At times parents and other trusted adults are put into an uncomfortable position when it comes to the mental health of teens. The conversations that they are asked to have can be hard to initiate but extremely important. Even if there are no signs your child may be struggling with their mental health, starting a dialogue will make your teen comfortable coming to you in the future. If you aren’t sure where to have the conversation, just ask your teen where they would prefer! Once you have identified a time and location, make it a conversation. Your teen wants to be heard, not told how to feel. Be ready for your teen to avoid the conversation. Sometimes your teen may not be ready to talk to you, and that’s okay! Don’t force it, but don’t give up. DO still communicate your desire to find a time and place to talk. These are just a couple of tips for the initiation of the conversation; please check out our podcast and the Adult Handbook from Robbie’s Hope that provides guidance on navigating the conversation!
