Girls Basketball saw their first action of 2023 on Wednesday night and earned their second win against a ranked opponent this year by beating #3 Cherry Creek 47-43. The Mustangs used their speed to beat the press and played gritty on defense against a tall Bruins attack.  Sophia Sabus and Elyssa Cardella lead the Mustangs scoring with 16 and 15 points, respectively.  Ralston Valley will be tested again tonight when they travel to take on #2 Monarch.

Boys Basketball also got back into action against Cherry Creek, this time coming up short 71-66.  They will open league play next Wednesday when they welcome Valor Christian to the Mustang Range in a huge Jeffco 6A game.

Come out next Friday (1/13) for a great night of basketball and support both the boys and girls programs.  All three levels for both programs will play crosstown rival Arvada West here at home.  The six games being played in our two gyms that night will be highlighted with the Girls Varsity game at 5:30 and the Boys Varsity game at 7:00.

Hockey plays on back-to-back nights this weekend.  Tonight they travel out to Fort Collins to play the Lobos.  Tomorrow they are in action at the APEX Center against Valor Christian.  Ralston Valley took down then #1 Valor earlier this season with a thrilling 4-3 OT victory.

Swim and Dive jump back in the pool this weekend with the Jeffco League Relays.  They are having a great season so far.  This is the first time this season that all of the competing Swim and Dive schools in Jeffco will come together for a meet. Good luck ladies.

Wrestling has their next home dual on Thursday against Valor Christian.  With a heavy tournament schedule for the rest of the season,  this will be one of only three chances left for you to come out and support the boys.

Resource: Robbie's Hope

Each month, a group of students from RV's Student Government will be highlighting a resource for students and their caregivers.  This month is a continuation of December's resource:

At times parents and other trusted adults are put into an uncomfortable position when it comes to the mental health of teens. The conversations that they are asked to have can be hard to initiate but extremely important. Even if there are no signs your child may be struggling with their mental health, starting a dialogue will make your teen comfortable coming to you in the future. If you aren’t sure where to have the conversation, just ask your teen where they would prefer! Once you have identified a time and location, make it a conversation. Your teen wants to be heard, not told how to feel. Be ready for your teen to avoid the conversation. Sometimes your teen may not be ready to talk to you, and that’s okay! Don’t force it, but don’t give up. DO still communicate your desire to find a time and place to talk. These are just a couple of tips for the initiation of the conversation; please check out our podcast and the Adult Handbook from Robbie’s Hope that provides guidance on navigating the conversation!

Second Semester Brings New Student Assistants

A vital part of running the counseling and main office is our valuable student assistants, and with the second half of the school year starting, we have a whole new group.  Students run passes to classrooms to excuse students from class for appointments with the academic counselors and administrators. They also support the attendance office, bringing passes for students who are called out for early release from school, and also help the office staff with various projects while earning credits.  We could not manage without them!

Construction  Milestones

See us grow!  Our construction crew was hard at work over the winter break, working in all kinds of weather, and now the new "C" hallway is complete.  Three new classrooms have been added that will be used in fall 2023, including a Construction in Geometry workshop.

Wrestling and Training Room Improvements

The new wrestling gym and athletic training room are ready for our Mustang athletes!
