Ralston Valley Percussionist played at Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade

Shout out to RV junior Jack Schwartz, for being selected to play cymbals in The Macy's Great American Marching Band, an elite group of high school musicians. This ensemble is made up of 189 students from across the country, and Jack was one of only two from Colorado this year, great job!

Come join the Ralston Valley High School orchestras as they play with Emmy winning artist Mark Wood. Mark is the co-founder of the Trans Siberian Orchestra. It will be an orchestra concert you will not forget! The concert will also feature our feeder middle schools, Oberon and Drake.

The concert is December 7th at 7pm, in the RV auditorium.

Tickets can be purchased on rvmusic.org, there is also a live stream available. Tickets will not be sold at the door.

RV Students make Colorado All-State Choir

We are so excited to announce that 8 RV students were selected for the Colorado All-State Choir!  These students all went through a rigorous audition process that required a lot of hard work and skill.  Congratulations to Jimi Adams, West Arleth, Jenna Clymo, Harrison Pina, Leo Stricker, Lily Velapoldi, Grant Walker, and Marissa Weir!

This week students in the Business and Marketing Program competed in the annual District 3 DECA Conference. Students prepared solutions to a variety of business problems and presented their findings to a panel of judges. All students represented RVHS very well, and ten of the nineteen competitors qualified for the state competition. Way to go Ralston Valley DECA!

Student Government Fall/Winter Service Project

Ralston Valley Student Government has been working on Fall/Winter Service Projects and one of the committees is the Cameron Holland Toy Drive. Cameron Holland was an RVHS Senior that died in a tragic car accident in 2019.  This year we have combined with the Holland family, the football boosters, and our 9th Grade Advisement classes to organize the drive. The idea is to start a new tradition where our 9th graders participate in a service project through their Advisement Classes, to promote the idea of empathy and service. Our goal is to collect at least 200 toys this year!

We are collecting unwrapped toys or gift cards to donate to Children's Hospital and Jeffco's Head Start program which provides services to many families living in poverty within Jefferson County. This service project is open to all RV students. If you have a 9th grader, they can drop of their donation to their Advisement teacher and if they are not in 9th grade, students can drop off toy donations to the main office or to Mrs. Braketa.  Donations are due by Monday, December 12th. Thank you for your support!

athletics

Congratulations to the Ralston Valley Football Team on a great season.  After knocking off Columbine in the quarterfinals, they took on Valor in the semis.  The semifinal match-up between the #3 Mustangs and #2 Eagles could not be decided until the second overtime.  Valor squeaked out the 42-41 victory, ending a great season for Ralston Valley.

The winter sports season got underway this week.  Girls basketball is currently playing in the Best in the Nest Tournament at Horizon and the boys team is playing in a tournament at Rock Canyon.  Our wrestling team won their first dual of the season against Centaurus. Hockey opens the season ranked #4 in the state and will play their first game of the year against Regis tonight.  Girls swim and dive have their first meet for the season on Saturday again Valor, Dakota Ridge, Standley Lake, and Chatfield.  Good luck with your season!!

Outdoor Lab Needs Leaders!

Outdoor Lab is looking for high school leaders! Each year, every 6th grade student in Jeffco has the opportunity to attend Outdoor Lab. High school leaders help support the teachers and staff during this weeklong mountain adventure. We still need to fill spots for the spring semester, and we are really in need of male volunteers! If your student is in 11th or 12th grade (in certain cases, 10th graders are included) and would like to be a leader, encourage them to see Ms. McGlone in the counseling office for an application. Leaders earn 0.5 credit or 78 hours of community service for their work.

Resource: Robbie's Hope

Each month, a group of students from RV's Student Government will be highlighting a resource for students and their caregivers:

Robbie’s Hope is an organization that has a goal to empower the next generation to cope with the stress and pressure of modern society and to help teens recognize warning signs of mental health issues and realize they are not alone. The organization's main goal is to cut teen suicide rates in half by 2028. Over the next few months, we will be incorporating information on how you (a parent or trusted adult) can make an impact on your child’s mental health. See more information on the website or listen to our introduction podcast, which is also on the website.

ralston valley happenings

Last week in Culinary Essentials 1, students made pumpkin loaf with a pumpkin pie spice crumble topping and icing drizzle.  They used fresh pie pumpkins to make the puree for the pumpkin loaf and they roasted the seeds from the pumpkin as well!  Each group got to pick a faculty or staff member at RV they are "extra grateful" for to share their pumpkin loaf!

Physics students used data collected about the trajectory of a water balloon shot from a large slingshot to calculate the velocity of the water balloon at the start of its flight.  They then calculated where to put their teacher or principal when they shot a second water balloon at a different launch.  The teachers and Mrs. Buenning ended up wet, cold, and proud of their students!

On December 1st, Level 2-AP German classes went to the Denver Christkindl Market where they performed three holiday songs in German.  They enjoyed German food and browsed the stalls.  Vielen Dank to the German Cultural Foundation for providing the funding for the bus transportation.
