Teacher Spotlight
Our teachers bring incredible passion and talent to the classroom every day and that’s just the beginning of who they are. Each month, we’ll spotlight one of our amazing staff members to celebrate their lives beyond school walls; their hobbies, interests, talents, families, and the things that make them who they are. We’re excited to share the whole person behind the profession! This month, we’re thrilled to spotlight Mr. Bohnert!
Many students know Mr. Bohnert as a dedicated Ralston Valley Social Studies teacher, but outside of school he’s a passionate custom bike builder and cyclist. His love for biking began in childhood, tinkering in the garage and creating “frankenbikes” — a playful nod to Frankenstein by Mary Shelley. By middle school, he was building bikes for friends, discovering the freedom and connection that riding brings.
In college, he realized he had a knack for customizing bikes to match each rider’s needs, even asking for “Five Words” to guide the build. One especially meaningful project was a collaboration with his late friend and former colleague, Mr. Lawton Davis. For Mr. Bohnert, bikes are more than transportation — they’re a way to build creativity, community, and even a little more harmony in the world.

It is a great time to remind everyone to be thoughtful of our neighbors and student body during drop off and pick up. We must keep the right of way clear for emergency vehicles and through traffic. With only one road to enter and exit a building this size, with this many people, the roads at the school will always be congested. There are a few things we can do as a Ralston Valley community to help make these busy times of day run as smoothly as possible.
Main Entrance - Dismissal is at 3:30 p.m. and we ask that you do not arrive to pick up your student and park in the loop before 3:00 p.m. Please be sure to pull as far forward as you can in the loop at the front of the school when dropping off or picking up your student. This helps to alleviate backups in the roundabout and get as many cars off of 80th Ave. as quickly as possible. Also, please pick up your student on the outside of the loop (closest the the sidewalk), not the inside. We do not want students passing in between cars as this is not safe.
Student Parking Lot - To keep our students safe, please do not park in our student parking lot while you wait to pick up your student(s) after school.
Roundabout on 80th- The roundabout is part of the road. Please do not park in the roundabout while waiting for dismissal time. This blocks the flow of eastbound traffic and prevents traffic exiting to the east from leaving campus as well. Please do not stop and pick up your student in the roundabout or on 80th Ave.
Fire Station - As traffic backs up on southbound Alkire, please be sure to leave room for our first responders to exit the firehouse safely and without obstruction. Do not block the exit of their garage.
82nd Ave. - Please pay attention to posted road signs along 82nd Ave. There are multiple speedbumps on 82nd Ave., making it necessary to go the speed limit or slower to ensure safe driving and prevent damage to your vehicle. There are also multiple No Parking signs along 82nd Ave. next to the school's property. Please do not park there to pick up your student.
Finally, and most importantly, please do not park across the street and ask for your student to run across 80th Ave. to be picked up. This is highly dangerous and we have shared with students that this is not permitted!
Thank you for your continued diligence when driving in and around Ralston Valley.
Traffic Reminders from Arvada Police Department
Please do NOT stop or park in the roundabout on W 80th Ave. until the car line begins to move/flow. Those waiting on the south side of W 80th Ave. just west of the roundabout need to wait there until they see the line begin to move. This usually takes a few minutes after the bell rings so please be patient. Those who attempt to stop or park in the roundabout before the line begins to move will not be allowed to stay there and will be directed to move (by continuing east) or will be ticketed by Arvada PD. This is essential for efficient traffic flow and will help the pick-up process run smoothly. It also helps to keep that area clear for emergency vehicles.

Boys Basketball - The Mustangs left no doubt last weekend.
In front of a packed house of 1,700 fans, the boys basketball team delivered a decisive 61–37 victory over Arvada West High School, answering any questions about the top team in both Jeffco and Arvada — and in the process, clinching the league championship for the 2nd year in a row.
From the opening tip, the Mustangs were locked in — focused, physical, and determined to control the game. After a competitive first quarter, they broke it open in the second. The defense tightened, stops turned into transition opportunities, and the team caught fire from the perimeter. Their combination of stout half-court defense and confident outside shooting created a decisive run that put the game out of reach.
It was a complete championship performance — disciplined execution, unselfish ball movement, and a defensive intensity that has defined this group all season long.
Now the focus shifts to the postseason.
The #2 Mustangs host Heritage High School tonight at 6:30 p.m. in a second-round playoff matchup at the Mustang Range. With league hardware secured, the standard remains the same — compete, defend, and advance. Tickets are available on GoFan, and passes will be accepted.
Let’s pack the Range again — see you there.
Girls Basketball - The Lady Mustangs completed the season sweep of crosstown rival Arvada West High School last Saturday in dramatic fashion, earning a hard-fought 53–48 overtime victory in front of a sold-out Mustang Range.
As rivalry games often do, this one delivered intensity from start to finish. The lead changed hands multiple times, with neither team able to create separation. Every possession mattered. Every stop was earned. And when the pressure mounted late, the Mustangs responded.
Their defensive toughness set the tone in overtime, forcing difficult shots and securing critical rebounds. On the offensive end, they executed with poise — knocking down key shots and converting free throws down the stretch to seal the win. It was a complete team effort defined by composure, resilience, and trust.
The energy in the gym was electric. A packed, sold-out crowd provided a true home-court advantage, fueling the Mustangs in key moments and creating an atmosphere worthy of postseason basketball.
Now the focus turns to the state tournament. After earning a first-round bye, the #16-seeded Mustangs will host Eaglecrest High School in the second round of the CHSAA 6A State Basketball Tournament on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at the Mustang Range. Tickets are available on GoFan, and passes will be accepted.
Let’s pack the Range once again and continue the postseason push.
The Mustang Unified Dance Team put on an outstanding performance at halftime of the rivalry game against Arvada West High School, performing in front of a packed and energetic crowd. They brought confidence, enthusiasm, and school pride to the floor, making it a special moment for everyone in attendance.
A big thank you to the RV Spirit Squad for their preparation, coaching, and support behind the scenes. Their leadership continues to create meaningful opportunities for our student-athletes.
Great job, Mustangs!

Engineering Students Bring Work to NASA HUNCH
Mr. Gause's Engineering students presented their projects to Jeffco's industry partners at NASA HUNCH, hosted by Red Rocks Community College. NASA HUNCH is a project-based learning program for high school students to learn skills by designing and fabricating valued products for NASA. They have been hard at work solving a problem of practice, and this experience serves as a culminating work-based learning experience. Finalist teams will be invited to the Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas, where they will have the opportunity to pitch their prototypes to NASA astronauts, lead engineers, and lead scientists. If selected, these students may have the chance to work directly with NASA to see their designs sent into space!
Ralston Valley Students Organize Benefit Concert
Several Ralston Valley High School students organized a concert outside of school to benefit blood cancer research. Students sang and played violin, guitar, saxophone, and piano. A mother of one of their friends has been fighting leukemia, and they wanted to help. Many people were watching the concert on Zoom, and about 150 people (many RVHS students) were in attendance in person and gave a well-deserved standing ovation at the end. It was truly joyful way to spend a Friday night and another reminder that RV has many incredibly talented and kind students.
Wellness Class in French
