It is a great time to remind everyone to be thoughtful of our neighbors and student body during drop off and pick up. We must keep the right of way clear for emergency vehicles and through traffic. With only one road to enter and exit a building this size, with this many people, the roads at the school will always be congested. There are a few things we can do as a Ralston Valley community to help make these busy times of day run as smoothly as possible.
Main Entrance - Dismissal is at 3:30 p.m. and we ask that you do not arrive to pick up your student and park in the loop before 3:00 p.m. Please be sure to pull as far forward as you can in the loop at the front of the school when dropping off or picking up your student. This helps to alleviate backups in the roundabout and get as many cars off of 80th Ave. as quickly as possible. Also, please pick up your student on the outside of the loop (closest the the sidewalk), not the inside. We do not want students passing in between cars as this is not safe.
Student Parking Lot - To keep our students safe, please do not park in our student parking lot while you wait to pick up your student(s) after school.
Roundabout on 80th- The roundabout is part of the road. Please do not park in the roundabout while waiting for dismissal time. This blocks the flow of eastbound traffic and prevents traffic exiting to the east from leaving campus as well. Please do not stop and pick up your student in the roundabout or on 80th Ave.
Fire Station - As traffic backs up on southbound Alkire, please be sure to leave room for our first responders to exit the firehouse safely and without obstruction. Do not block the exit of their garage.
82nd Ave. - Please pay attention to posted road signs along 82nd Ave. There are multiple speedbumps on 82nd Ave., making it necessary to go the speed limit or slower to ensure safe driving and prevent damage to your vehicle. There are also multiple No Parking signs along 82nd Ave. next to the school's property. Please do not park there to pick up your student.
Finally, and most importantly, please do not park across the street and ask for your student to run across 80th Ave. to be picked up. This is highly dangerous and we have shared with students that this is not permitted!
Thank you for your continued diligence when driving in and around Ralston Valley.
Traffic Reminders from Arvada Police Department
Please do NOT stop or park in the roundabout on W 80th Ave. until the car line begins to move/flow. Those waiting on the south side of W 80th Ave. just west of the roundabout need to wait there until they see the line begin to move. This usually takes a few minutes after the bell rings so please be patient. Those who attempt to stop or park in the roundabout before the line begins to move will not be allowed to stay there and will be directed to move (by continuing east) or will be ticketed by Arvada PD. This is essential for efficient traffic flow and will help the pick-up process run smoothly. It also helps to keep that area clear for emergency vehicles.
Make-A-Wish Week January 16th - January 24th
Our 15th annual Make-A-Wish Week is here! We are raising money in the name of Lily, a 10 year girl who loves Chipotle, rock climbing, Princess Jasmine, and playing with her sister!
For 14 years, the incredible dedication of the Ralston Valley community has raised over $630,000 for Make-A-Wish Colorado, granting approximately 84 wishes and changing countless lives.
We are so close to a historic milestone! Our goal this year is to reach the 100-WISH MARK!
To achieve this century of hope, we must raise a final $120,000, which will fund 16 life-changing wishes.
Let's unite, make history, and bring the magic of 100 wishes to life!
Check out the RVHS Make-A-Wish Website, Spirit Calendar (including restaurant nights) and amazing Silent Auction below to learn more about the week and how you can help our community grant 16 WISHES! This truly is one of the highlights of the school year!

Boys Basketball - The Mustang boys basketball team picked up right where they left off in the new year, continuing a dominant start to the season with a statement 68–66 victory over No. 1-ranked Chaparral High School. The Mustangs rose to the challenge in a highly competitive matchup, led offensively by Frank Psaute with 19 points and Caiden Braketa with 17. On the defensive end, Ralston Valley delivered when it mattered most, limiting the Wolverines to just nine points in the fourth quarter to secure the win.
The Mustangs followed that performance with a gritty and disciplined 55–40 road victory at Broomfield, pulling away in the second half by outscoring the Eagles 37–17 to seize control of the game. That win pushed Ralston Valley to an impressive 8–0 record on the season. The Mustangs now turn their attention to a showdown with Smoky Hill tonight at the Mustang Range at 7:00 p.m., where they will look to protect home court and continue setting the standard!
Wrestling - Last weekend, the Mustang wrestling team traveled to Arvada High School to compete in a highly competitive invitational tournament and delivered a strong overall performance, finishing third as a team. Ralston Valley was well represented on the podium, led by runner-up finishes from Paul Riebschlager at 138 pounds, Wyatt Smith at 157 pounds, and Phoenix Burdett at 175 pounds. Max Wheeler added to the team’s success with a third-place finish at 285 pounds, showcasing depth and toughness across the lineup.
The Mustangs will remain close to home this weekend as they compete at the Arvada West High School tournament, continuing to test themselves against quality competition. Best of luck to our wrestlers as they look to build on last weekend’s momentum!
Girls Swim and Dive - The girls swim and dive team has been very active and continues to build momentum as the season progresses. At the relay meet, the Mustangs finished a close second overall, with every relay placing first, second, or third. It was also a milestone meet for the program, marking the first competition with no disqualifications and featuring several personal best performances.
In the quad meet against Standley Lake, Lakewood, and Bear Creek, Ralston Valley again earned a close second-place finish. Laura Hanake, Nora Kubert, Sarai Kilgore, Heather Thome, Kenzie Ammon, Kacie Kirchhevel, Penelope Lee, and Eira Barber all achieved or added league qualifying cuts.
At the Coaches Invite, the Mustangs capped off a strong stretch of competition with a fourth-place finish out of 47 scoring teams. Relay teams placed ninth in the medley relay, 12th in the 200 freestyle relay, and fifth in the 400 freestyle relay. Individually, Sophia Ganong placed fifth in the 100 freestyle and broke her own school record with a time of 53.02, while Lillia Barlow and Emily McQuitty placed second and ninth in the 500 freestyle. Anna Countryman also earned a state qualifying cut in the 100 breaststroke, underscoring a weekend that showcased the program’s depth, consistency, and continued improvement.
The Mustangs also had an excellent meet against Valor last Thursday, highlighted by continued depth and versatility across the lineup. Nora Kubert, Heather Thome, Emily McQuitty, Taylor McQuitty, Brynn Sorice, Claira Kelley, Tyler Bowman, Sarai Kilgore, Abigail Hopkins, Sofie Cox, Kenzie Ammon, Eira Barber, Laura Haneke, Anna Countryman, Kacie Kirchhevel, Lillia Barlow, and Sophia Ganong all earned additional league qualifying cuts, including in several non-primary events. Sophia Ganong and Lillia Barlow also added to their state cuts in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle, respectively.
Hockey - The Mustang hockey team has continued its strong season with a productive stretch that included multiple wins and a tie since the last newsletter. Prior to winter break, the Mustangs battled Denver East in a challenging matchup, falling 6–2, before responding with a hard-fought 3–3 tie against Monarch.
Riding that momentum into the new year, Ralston Valley earned an exciting 4–3 overtime victory over Heritage, followed by a dominant 6–2 win against Resurrection Christian. Offensively, Bridger Laychak continues to lead the way with nine goals on the season, while Brayden Faulhaber has been a key playmaker with 11 assists. Between the pipes, Malicai Perez has anchored the Mustangs with a strong 1.80 goals-against average.
The Mustangs face a demanding weekend ahead as they take on No. 2 Cherry Creek on Friday night before squaring off with division-leading and No. 1-ranked Poudre School District on Saturday at the Apex Center, with puck drop scheduled for 7:45 p.m. Good luck to the Mustangs as they prepare for this high-level challenge!
Girls Basketball - The Mustang girls basketball team returned from winter break and was immediately tested against a top-10 Highlands Ranch squad. The Mustangs competed with toughness and resilience but ultimately fell to one of the state’s perennial powerhouses. Ralston Valley responded in impressive fashion on Wednesday, turning in a complete performance to defeat a strong Grandview program, 67–53.
After a competitive three quarters, the Mustangs took control of the game by outscoring the Wolves 20–10 in the fourth quarter, using disciplined defense and efficient offense to pull away and secure the win. Santana Sabus continues to lead the team, averaging 23.4 points and 10.4 rebounds per game, while Sammi Madden has been a consistent perimeter threat, shooting an outstanding 54 percent from three-point range.
Next up, the Mustangs head into league play with a match-up against Bear Creek on the road. Tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m. as Ralston Valley looks to carry its momentum forward!
