CMAS Science Testing
Beginning the week of April 6th, Juniors will participate in the state-mandated CMAS Science assessment. Testing sessions will primarily occur during scheduled science blocks. Please note that while many students will complete testing during the first week, the testing window will extend into the following week for certain groups.
For more details regarding the goals and importance of this state assessment, please click here for more information.
LOGISTICS & SCHEDULING
Science teachers will provide students with their exact testing dates, any specific changes to their class schedule, and their room assignments. Please be aware of the following alternate arrangements:
Juniors in both Chemistry & Physics: These students will test during their Physics class
Sophomores or Seniors in Physics or Conceptual Chemistry: These students should report to their science class first for attendance, then proceed to the library for the duration of the testing session. Attendance will be taken in both locations. Once testing concludes, students will return to their regular science class for the remainder of the period.
If your student is a Junior and does not have a scheduled science class at RVHS (due to taking classes at Warren Tech), they will test in the Library Classroom during the following times:
Warren Tech AM Students: Thursday, April 16, from 1:00pm - 3:30pm (both sessions).
Warren Tech PM Students: Thursday, April 16, from 8:15am-10:45am (both sessions).
Note: If students miss any regularly scheduled RVHS classes to complete this testing, they will be excused and permitted to complete any make-up work.
If you have any questions about CMAS Science testing, please contact Kristen Hogan, Assistant Principal.
Thank you for your continued support of our students and their academic success!

Please consider donating through the link below. There will also be an opportunity on March 19th during Access for students to make donations to support this cause.
Student Safety - Railroad Tracks
Please be aware and vigilant about student safety around the railroad tracks. Union Pacific has expressed growing safety concerns about students crossing the tracks and has asked us to reach out to parents to help reinforce this message at home. Railroad Special Agents have emphasized and asked us to share that the railroad tracks are private property.
As always, our number one concern is student safety. At RV, we consistently remind students to avoid crossing the tracks, not only because it is against the law but, more importantly, because it is highly unsafe. We ask for your partnership in reinforcing the message so that together we can keep our students safe.
Thank you for your continued support!

Call for Volunteers: Baccalaureate Planning Committee
We need volunteers interested in planning this ceremony.
Baccalaureate refers to a non-denominational ceremony held a few days before graduation. Unlike the massive commencement exercise held in an arena, baccalaureate ceremonies offer a quieter, more intimate opportunity to pause and reflect on this rite of passage, hear a keynote speaker, and appreciate other student talents. A faculty member and student speakers offer advice to the graduating class. This event is not sponsored by the school and is parent-volunteer based only.
Please complete and submit this form as soon as possible to volunteer in support of a Baccalaureate ceremony for the Class of 2026.

Alkire Stree Improvement Project Moving to Construction
It is a great time to remind everyone to be thoughtful of our neighbors and student body during drop off and pick up. We must keep the right of way clear for emergency vehicles and through traffic. With only one road to enter and exit a building this size, with this many people, the roads at the school will always be congested. There are a few things we can do as a Ralston Valley community to help make these busy times of day run as smoothly as possible.
Main Entrance - Dismissal is at 3:30 p.m. and we ask that you do not arrive to pick up your student and park in the loop before 3:00 p.m. Please be sure to pull as far forward as you can in the loop at the front of the school when dropping off or picking up your student. This helps to alleviate backups in the roundabout and get as many cars off of 80th Ave. as quickly as possible. Also, please pick up your student on the outside of the loop (closest the the sidewalk), not the inside. We do not want students passing in between cars as this is not safe.
Student Parking Lot - To keep our students safe, please do not park in our student parking lot while you wait to pick up your student(s) after school.
Roundabout on 80th- The roundabout is part of the road. Please do not park in the roundabout while waiting for dismissal time. This blocks the flow of eastbound traffic and prevents traffic exiting to the east from leaving campus as well. Please do not stop and pick up your student in the roundabout or on 80th Ave.
Fire Station - As traffic backs up on southbound Alkire, please be sure to leave room for our first responders to exit the firehouse safely and without obstruction. Do not block the exit of their garage.
82nd Ave. - Please pay attention to posted road signs along 82nd Ave. There are multiple speedbumps on 82nd Ave., making it necessary to go the speed limit or slower to ensure safe driving and prevent damage to your vehicle. There are also multiple No Parking signs along 82nd Ave. next to the school's property. Please do not park there to pick up your student.
Finally, and most importantly, please do not park across the street and ask for your student to run across 80th Ave. to be picked up. This is highly dangerous and we have shared with students that this is not permitted!
Thank you for your continued diligence when driving in and around Ralston Valley.
Traffic Reminders from Arvada Police Department
Please do NOT stop or park in the roundabout on W 80th Ave. until the car line begins to move/flow. Those waiting on the south side of W 80th Ave. just west of the roundabout need to wait there until they see the line begin to move. This usually takes a few minutes after the bell rings so please be patient. Those who attempt to stop or park in the roundabout before the line begins to move will not be allowed to stay there and will be directed to move (by continuing east) or will be ticketed by Arvada PD. This is essential for efficient traffic flow and will help the pick-up process run smoothly. It also helps to keep that area clear for emergency vehicles.

Boys Basketball - The Mustangs boys basketball team has made history — and their story is still being written.
Last weekend, the Mustangs delivered a thrilling victory over George Washington High School to advance to the Final Four of the CHSAA 6A Boys Basketball State Tournament for the first time in program history at Ralston Valley High School as a 6A/5A school.
The quarterfinal matchup at the Denver Coliseum had all the drama of a postseason classic. The two teams battled through a tightly contested first half before the Mustangs created some separation in the third quarter, building a nine-point lead with disciplined defense and timely scoring.
But George Washington refused to go away, slowly chipping back and eventually taking a one-point lead with just 10 seconds remaining.
With the season hanging in the balance, the Mustangs executed flawlessly. On a perfectly designed inbounds play under their own basket, senior Zeke Andrews found the opening and delivered the moment of the season — finishing at the rim as time expired to give the Mustangs a dramatic 54–53 victory and send the team into the state semifinals.
Now the stage gets even bigger.
The Mustangs will face Rangeview High School in the Final Four on Friday at 7:15 p.m. at the Denver Coliseum. A win would send them to the state championship game on Saturday at 4:00 p.m., also at the Coliseum.
Let’s show our Mustang pride — pack the Coliseum and support this team as they continue their historic playoff run.
Boy's Swim & Dive - The Mustang Swim & Dive team turned in another strong performance in a tri-meet against Wheat Ridge High School and Chatfield High School, showcasing depth across the lineup and delivering a decisive team victory.
The Mustangs controlled the meet from start to finish, highlighted by relay success and several standout individual performances. The team’s Medley Relay and 200 Freestyle Relay both captured first place, setting the tone early and giving the Mustangs valuable points in the team standings.
Individually, Logan Gansen continued his outstanding start to the season, winning both the 50 Freestyle and 500 Freestyle while also adding two more state qualifying cuts to his growing list of postseason marks.
Several other Mustangs contributed strong finishes across the meet:
Brady Bengston — 2nd place in the 200 IM and 500 Freestyle
Zane Roberts — 1st place in the 100 Breaststroke and 2nd in the 50 Freestyle
Cooper Sanders — 3rd in the 50 Freestyle and 2nd in the 100 Backstroke
Gideon Eyser — 3rd in the 100 Freestyle
Mateo Trujillo — 2nd in the 100 Butterfly
Sean Tracy — 1st place in the 200 Freestyle
The 400 Freestyle Relay capped off the meet with an exciting finish, battling to the wall and finishing just out-touched in 2nd place in one of the closest races of the day.
When the final scores were tallied, the Mustangs secured the overall win with 445 points, ahead of Chatfield (333) and Wheat Ridge (284) — another strong step forward for the team early in the season.
Great work by all of our Mustang swimmers as they continue building momentum in the pool.
Girls Soccer - The Mustang girls soccer team is off to an outstanding start to the season, opening with two convincing victories. The Mustangs earned a 5–0 win over Durango High School and followed it up with a 4–0 victory against Rocky Mountain High School.
While scoring nine goals in the first two matches is impressive, what stands out even more is the team’s balance on the offensive end. Eight different Mustangs have found the back of the net, highlighting the depth, unselfish play, and attacking versatility of the squad early in the season.
Equally important has been the performance on the defensive side of the field. The Mustang back line and goalkeeper unit have been outstanding, securing two shutouts and limiting quality opportunities for their opponents. That defensive discipline has set the tone and allowed the team to control the pace of both matches.
Next up, the Mustangs will take on Jefferson Academy on March 18 at 5:00 p.m. at North Area Athletic Complex.
Best of luck to the Mustangs as they look to keep the momentum going!
Girls Lacrosse - The Mustang girls lacrosse team is off to a strong start this season, earning impressive victories over Palmer Ridge High School (23–14) and Cheyenne Mountain High School (15–9). The Mustangs have shown an explosive offense and strong teamwork in the early part of the season, putting together two high-scoring performances.
In the matchup against Palmer Ridge, the offense was firing on all cylinders. Freshman Hadley Brooks led the way with an impressive eight goals, while Sydni Gregory and Barrett Walker each added six goals of their own. Maddie McGinness also contributed with three goals, helping the Mustangs maintain offensive pressure throughout the game.
With balanced scoring, strong ball movement, and relentless energy, the Mustangs have set an exciting tone to open the season.
Next up, the Mustangs travel to face Denver East High School on Friday at 6:00 p.m. Best of luck to the Mustangs as they continue building momentum!
Boys Lacrosse - The Mustang boys lacrosse team is also off to a blazing start this season, earning two hard-fought victories to open the year. The Mustangs edged Cherokee Trail High School 10–9 and followed that up with a thrilling 9–8 double-overtime win against Northfield High School.
Both games showcased the team’s toughness and resilience. The Mustangs demonstrated physical play, strong execution, and a relentless offensive approach, continuing to attack even when facing tight situations late in the game. Their ability to stay composed and finish under pressure proved to be the difference in both contests.
Through the first two games, the offense has been led by several key contributors. Levi Rillos is pacing the team with 3.0 goals per game, while Colby Kurtz is averaging 2.5 goals per game, and Max Bianco is contributing 2.0 goals per game. Their scoring production, combined with the team’s depth and defensive effort, has fueled the Mustangs’ strong start.
The Mustangs return to action Friday night as they face Denver South High School at 7:30 p.m. at Trailblazer Stadium.
Keep the momentum going, Mustangs!
Baseball - The Mustang baseball team opened its season in impressive fashion on Thursday with a commanding 8–3 victory over Castle View High School on the road.
The Mustangs came out with energy and confidence, putting together a complete performance at the plate, on the mound, and in the field. Offensively, Lars Jergensen led the charge with an outstanding day, launching two home runs to pace the Mustang attack. Kaiden Henson also added a home run, helping the Mustangs build momentum throughout the game. In addition to the big swings, several other players contributed with timely hits and solid situational at-bats, while the defense made key plays to keep Castle View from mounting a comeback.
On the mound, Winston Patterson delivered a strong start to earn the season’s first win, setting the tone with composed pitching and keeping the Castle View offense in check. Porter Peonio and Jake Watts came on in relief to close out the game, combining to secure the victory and finish off a well-rounded team performance.
Next up, the Mustangs return home to face George Washington High School on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Ralston Valley High School.
Good luck to the Mustangs as they look to keep the momentum rolling this weekend!
Girls Tennis - The Mustang girls tennis team has opened the season right where they left off after last year’s state championship run — in first place.
The Mustangs traveled to Grand Junction to compete in the Western Slope Open and delivered an outstanding team performance, finishing as tournament champions and setting an early tone for the season. Competing against strong programs from across the state, the Mustangs showcased their depth and consistency across the lineup to claim the team title.
They carried that momentum into Wednesday’s dual against another highly regarded program, Rock Canyon High School. In an impressive showing, the Mustangs competed at a high level in every singles and doubles position, winning all seven matches to secure a 7–0 sweep.
The team’s balanced lineup, disciplined play, and competitive toughness were on full display as they controlled the match from start to finish.
Next up, the Mustangs will face Cheyenne Mountain High School on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. at the Apex Tennis Center.
Girls Golf - The Mustang girls golf team had to wait a little longer than expected to begin their season after their opening tournament was postponed to Tuesday, but they made the most of the opportunity with a strong start.
Leading the way was senior Addi Hines, who delivered an outstanding round of 73 to capture the individual championship. Her steady play and composure throughout the round set the tone for the Mustangs and highlighted the experience she brings to the lineup.
Behind Hines’ performance and solid contributions from the rest of the squad, the Mustangs finished second overall as a team, a great early-season result that shows the depth and potential of the group as the year gets underway.
The team will look to build on that momentum as they prepare for the first Jeffco League tournament on March 30 at The Ranch Country Club.
Good luck to the Mustangs as they continue their season!
Track & Field - The Mustang track and field team had another strong week of competition, continuing to show depth and consistency across events.
Earlier in the week, the Mustangs competed at the Thornton Early Bird Track Meet, where both the girls and boys teams captured the team championships. With strong performances across the track and in the field events, the Mustangs demonstrated their balance and early-season momentum against a competitive field.
The team returned to action on Thursday at the Jeffco Non-Qualifying Meet at Jeffco Stadium. Once again, the Mustangs competed at a high level, with both the boys and girls teams finishing second overall, continuing to build strong results as the season progresses.
After a busy stretch of meets, the team will take a short break this weekend before preparing for one of the area’s most anticipated competitions — the Arvada City Championships, scheduled for Friday, March 20 at 2:00 p.m. at Jeffco Stadium.
Good luck to all of our Mustang athletes as they get ready to compete for city bragging rights next week!

Intro to Legal Environment Class Visits Denver County Court
Ms. Newhouse's class recently had the opportunity to participate in an engaging real-world learning experience at the Denver County Court. During the visit, students observed live court proceedings and gained firsthand insight into how the judicial system operates beyond the classroom.
While at the courthouse, students witnessed several hearings and had the privilege of spending time in Courtroom 2100 with Judge AnnMarie Spain, Magistrate for the City and County of Denver. Judge Spain generously took time to speak with the class, answering numerous questions about the legal process, courtroom procedures, and her role within the judicial system.
Her ability to explain complex legal concepts in a relatable and understandable way helped students connect their coursework to real-world applications. The experience provided valuable insight into how laws are applied, how cases move through the court system, and the important responsibilities carried by members of the judiciary.
Experiential learning opportunities like this help students to better understand the practical side of law and government while inspiring many to consider future careers in legal fields. We are grateful to Judge Spain and the Denver County Court for welcoming our students and making this meaningful educational experience possible.
