RALSTON VALLEY NEWS

December 8, 2023 EDition

Mental, social and emotional wellness of students is a priority that we share with our community and one that we are addressing with layers of support including school counselors, social emotional learning specialists, school psychologists, social workers along with partnerships with outside agencies like Hazel Health.

This year, we continue our partnership with Hazel Health’s Telehealth services to provide a free telehealth extension of mental and physical health support for Jeffco students enrolled at district-managed schools accessed at home with a parent/guardian.

Parents/guardians may access these services on behalf of your student by visiting this webpage and following the instructions for – Steps to Access Care

Congratulation to Ralston Valley Senior Wrestler Lincoln Gregerson, who earned his 100th victory last weekend.  Lincoln is the first Mustang to reach this mark in school history.  A three time state placer, Lincoln is looking to make a legitimate run at a state title this February.  Congratulations Lincoln!!

Dance will compete tomorrow afternoon at the Denver Coliseum at the CHSAA State Spirit Championships.  They will compete at 12:52PM with hopes of qualifying for tomorrow's finals.  Stick around after their performance to see them showcase next year's new Game Day Division dance as part of an exhibition at 3:11PM.

Cheerleading performed well yesterday at the CHSAA State Spirit Championships.   The Mustangs fell short of their goal of qualifying for finals but did a great job representing their team and our school.  Congratulations on a good competition season.

Girls Basketball will play in the championship game of the Fairview Tournament tonight.  After beating Sierra in the opening round, the Mustangs beat a tough Mountain Vista team last night 61-55 to move on.  Tonight's opponent is perennial power Highlands Ranch.  Good luck Mustangs.

Boys Basketball went 2-1 at last weekend's Rock Canyon/Mountain Vista Tournament.  This week they host the Ralston Roundup Classic.  After suffering an OT loss to Douglas County on Tuesday, they bounced back to beat Legacy last night 60-32.

Girls Swim and Dive started their season with a solid performance against Columbine and Lakewood last weekend.  Sophia Hineline earned a State qualifying score in diving.   They will square off with Conifer and D'Evelyn tomorrow at Carmody Rec Center at 4:00PM.

Wrestling battled Denver South on Wednesday at the Mustang Range.  No match was able to go the distance.  60-24 was the final as the Mustangs roll.  Good luck to the Varsity team at Lewis-Palmer this weekend.

Hockey has a big game tonight at the Family Sports Center against Regis Jesuit.  The two traditional powers will square off in an early season league battle.

 Advisement Corner

This Week in Advisement

The theme for 9th  grade Advisement this week is Preparing for Finals! Many of our 9th graders have never taken an accumulative final, so this will be a great time to discuss preparation and to give them the opportunity to create a plan.

In 10th grade Advisement, students will connect with Peer Counseling to discuss The Power of Storytelling with the focus  on empathetic listening.

Coming up next week - Students will decorate cookies and gingerbread houses. Please  send them to school with items that they would like to share with their class for this team building activity.

Congratulations to Ms. Vette, Mr. Madden and Ms. Berry! You will receive a Hot Chocolate Bar delivered to your Advisement classes on Monday, for winning the Gratitude Graffiti contest!

Cameron Holland Toy Drive in Advisement

The Cameron Holland Family adopted this toy drive tradition in 2019 when Cameron Holland, an RV student and athlete, passed away before the holiday season. The Holland family is tightly involved in the RV community, granting a scholarship to a senior student athlete each year, raising awareness for vehicle safety, and sponsoring a toy drive in memory of Cam, making it really more than just about toys!

Our 9th and 10th grade Advisement classes will be collecting toys for the Cameron Holland Toy Drive, benefiting Children’s Hospital and Jeffco Head Start starting Monday, December 4th - Thursday, December 14th

Students can bring their unwrapped donations to their Advisement teacher or to the main office.  Even though this is being presented in 9th and 10th grade Advisement classes, we encourage our entire community to get involved.

Here is a list of acceptable items.

 ralston valley HAPPENINGS

Physics Calculates Projectile Motion with Water Balloons

Students in Physics used their understanding of how projectile motion works and data collected from test shots of water balloons fired from a slingshot to calculate how fast the water balloons leave the slingshot. Armed with this information, each student calculated where the water balloon would land if shot at a different angle. They then placed their physics teacher there and took their best shot! The physics students got really good at making these predictions, so the physics teachers were wet and cold!

French II Classes Judge Baguettes

While learning about the different kinds of shops in France, Madame Frie's students had a baguette tasting.  Out of six different brands, Panera won their votes!
