Before we install a new printer, it is important to have a conversation with the merchant about where the printer is located, how it is being used, and what kind of connection the printer has to either a HotSauce computer or the HotSauce network.
The following guides assume that the printer being installed is power on and connected to either a HotSauce POS terminal or the HotSauce network.
The vast majority of our thermal receipt printers are connected directly to a POS terminal through a USB connection. As long as you know the model of the printer being installed, the installation for a printer connected by USB is relatively straightforward.
Clarify the model of the printer being installed and ensure that it is properly connected both to a power source and by USB to a POS terminal.
Search for the driver files for the printer in the HotsaucePrereqInstaller folder. If it is not there, go to this link where we keep the drivers for all our printers. Download the files from Google drive on to your computer and move them in to the HotsaucePrereqInstaller folder on the POS terminal.
Run the Setup for the driver.
Select 'I Accept' in the Legal Agreement and click 'Next'.
By default the model of the printer shown under 'Receipt' should match the printer driver you are trying to install. Click 'Next'.
Under 'Setup Type' select 'Typical' and click 'Next'.
Under 'Ports' select the option that has 'USB' and click 'Install'.
USB port name for Partnertech Setup
USB port name for SNBC Setup
Go to the start menu, search and open either 'Devices and Printers' or 'Print Management'.
Locate the driver you just installed. Right click and select 'Properties'.
Change the name of the printer to the proper name (ex. LOCAL, BAR).
Select 'Print a Test Page' to ensure that the printer has been properly installed.
The process for installing a printer connected to the HotSauce network via Ethernet cable is much the same as the process for installing a driver for a USB connected printer with the added step of needing to set the printer's IP address. EPSON and SNBC printers each have their own method for changing the IP of the printer.
Open the HotsaucePrereqInstaller folder in the Hotsauce folder. Navigate to the SNBC ETHERNET CONFIG folder. Locate and run the BYNetWinConfig application. If you cannot find it in the Hotsauce folder, download it off of Google Drive.
The BYNetWinConfig Tool will help us scan for an SNBC printer on the Hotsauce network and change its IP.
Click 'Protocol Operation' and select 'UDP (Inter-segment)'. Click 'OK'.
Click 'Search Printers'. The tool will now begin searching for your SNBC printer.
Select the printer and click 'IP Parameter Setting'. Adjust the IP Address, Subnet Mask, and Gateway Address to match HotSauce IP naming standards. Printers should begin at .200. See the picture below for an example IP setup. Click 'OK' to save settings.
Click 'Reboot Device' to finish adjusting IP.
NOTE: An IP only needs to be adjusted once. From here on you simply need to install the printer driver on each POS terminal.
Be sure to set to UDP protocol. If the printer still does not appear after searching UDP, try the other protocols.
Remember that we start by setting network printers to .200 IP address. Each network printer after should be .201, .202, etc.
Unfortunately EPSON printers sucks so they don't have a nice configuration tool. However, by factory default, the IP of EPSON printers is set to 192.168.192.168. With this knowledge we can access the EPSON printer's built in configuration webpage.
To begin we must first set an exception so that the computer we are working on can access the EPSON's configuration webpage.
Go to the Windows Start menu, search for and open 'Network and Sharing Center'.
Click 'Change adaptor settings'. Right click the Ethernet network and select 'Properties'.
Select 'Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)' and click the 'Properties' button.
Click 'Advanced'. From here we can add a second IP address for the computer. The computer MUST be set to a static IP to do this.
Under 'IP addresses' click 'Add...'.
Enter in '192.168.192.175'. Subnet mask should fill in by default as '255.255.255.0'.
Click 'OK' twice and 'Close' to save Ethernet Properties.
We go to the 'Ethernet Properties' window a LOT when dealing with networking issues so remember how to reach it and know what we can do from here.
Technically the last three digits of the IP address can be any number so long as it does not conflict with an existing IP address.
Now we will access the EPSON configuration webpage.
Open Google Chrome and in the url search bar, type '192.168.192.168'.
You will land in a warning page. To proceed past it, click 'Advanced' and then 'Proceed to 192.168.192.168'.
You will be prompted to sign in. The login username and password will both be 'epson'.
Once you're logged in, locate and select on the side navigation 'TCP/IP'.
Adjust the IP Address to match our HotSauce naming standards. Remember, printers should begin at .200.
Set the Default Gateway to match the IP of our router. The default IP of our router should be 192.168.9.1.
Click 'Send' then click 'Reset' to complete setting up the IP.
NOTE: An IP only needs to be adjusted once. From here on you simply need to install the printer driver on each POS terminal.
