💭Let's Discuss...
First, go to THIS LINK and weigh in:
Is it important for movies (and other art forms) to always be historically accurate? Why or why not?
🎬Next, we will watch a video about the historical (in)accuracy of the Disney Pocahontas movie.
Let's reflect in a Think-Pair-Share.
Project Documents
Primary Research:
Below are some sources where you can find ideas for examples of various pieces of art in different mediums. Please note that you will cite the actual song/film/novel etc. NOT the lists/articles below.
Your primary sources will be the songs/films/poems/monuments/art/novels you are analyzing.
You will need at least THREE songs by TWO artists:
NPR:"Young Iraqis Turn to Rap"
You will need at least THREE poems by TWO different poets:
Poems about War
Poetry Out Loud: War poetry
"When Yellow Ribbons and Flag-Waving Aren't Enough"
"The Poetry of the War on Terror"
You will need at least THREE pieces of visual art:
"Finding Peace Through Painting War": Vietnam War
"The Healing Impact of Vietnam War art"
"Discovering Peace Through Art in Afghanistan"
"15 years into the war in Afghanistan..."
"How Afghan Women are Wielding Art Against the Taliban"
"These Artists Refuse To Forget the Wars in Iraq"
You will need at least ONE novel:
JSTOR: "Fighting and Writing: America's Vietnam War Lit"
Secondary Sources
You will need at least THREE secondary sources. Your first source should be a general background article on your conflict. The databases are a great place to find this!
Once you know what primary sources you are analyzing, you'll find secondary sources discussing them. For your other secondary sources, you may want to search either the databases or Google for reviews, editorials or news articles about your specific medium example.
Examples: movie reviews, a news article about a new monument.
