Nice to Meet You!
It's only been a month and I feel like I've already met everyone in the community... twice. Between Meet the Teacher, the Pancake Breakfast, School Council Meetings, Community Awareness Night, Graduation 2024 planning, and the Travel Club information evening, it's clear to see that the parents, students, and Thorsby residents are engaged in what's going on in the schools and out in the community.
We hope to continue this as we move into autumn. Over the next month we have our Terry Fox Run through the community, a school dance, and various other events.
Stay tuned to hear all about them.
Daniel Hodges
Principal
Thank you to everyone who came out to our Pancake Breakfast last week! We were able to raise some additional funds for our Breakfast Program, which is essential for providing our students with the best opportunity to learn.
Thanks to Matt Ruhr, Darcy & Brandon Powlik and Kolter Pawlick for braving the cool morning weather to cook for our community. As well, thank you to Darcy Powlik, Matt Ruhr and Kollbrook Esso for their generous donations! We appreciate being part of such a giving community.
If you are interested in the RAP or Work Ex Program, come see Miss Powlik. She has all of the paperwork and can answer any questions you might have.
Orange Shirt Day & Terry Fox Run
Thursday, September 28, 2023
For the 16th consecutive year, Thorsby Junior Senior High School will participate in the annual Terry Fox school run. On the same day, students are encouraged to wear their orange shirts as we will also recognize the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. The forms to participate in the Terry Fox Run are up on Power School under the Permission Forms tab. Forms must be signed in order for your student to participate.
School Goal: $1000.00
If students raise $500, Mr. Proc will either wear a toupee or shave handlebars.
If students raise the full $1000, Mr. Heise will get a pie in the face!
Students are encouraged to bring at least a toonie on (or before) run day (collected as students exit the gym to the route) or donations can also be made online.
To donate, please follow this link: 2023 Terry Fox Run TJSHS
To support students as they learn, Thorsby Junior Senior High School prioritizes maintaining a safe and caring environment. A critical part of that is excluding illegal substances, that is, substances that are either illegal by their nature or by the circumstances of their consumption.
This includes drugs of all kinds such as cannabis, as well as alcohol, tobacco, and tobacco products especially the addictive vape juice, consumed while vaping.
Vaping is of particular concern, not only at our school but in schools across the world. Our hope is that together with parents and other stakeholders we can increase knowledge of the effects of vaping and, by doing so, reduce their consumption
I have included links to several resources below as well as a link to our statement of fair notice regarding the consequences for failing to adhere to the rules related to illegal substances I have outlined above.
