After the third quarter the girls had pushed through the Breton defence and stormed back to take the lead by 2. By the end of the game the Thorsby girls were up by 15 and won the championship. Badminton
Badminton season is just around the corner. We will be starting practice right after basketball season is done and those practitces will take place at lunch. Junior High School students can compete in a one day tournament at various venues in Leduc (depending on what their age category is) and the Senior High students have the opportunity to compete in Edmonton at the Saville Center in April. The goal this year is to get as many people wanting to play badminton as possible. If your child is interested, tell them to come and check it out.
Over the course of semester two, we will be looking at different areas of wellness throughout the school. March is Nutrition month and so we will feature some ideas around that area. Here at TJSHS, Mr Feil has taken on the Wellness role and is trying to get as many people involved as possible. Keep your eye on the Wellness Beat section for Wellness ideas and information.
Nutrition
One of the things we will be doing this month is another food bank drive. I know we did one around the holidays and it was extremely successful, but people in need aren't just in need during the holidays. We can help by running another food drive and donating what we can to those in need. The rules will be the same as last time. People can donate items to the food bank and those items will be assigned points. The house with the most points at the end will gain 3 house points, second most will gain 2 house points, and third most will gain one house point. Last time it got pretty competitive and people did an amazing job bringing in whatever they could.
Random Nutrition fact
Did you know...
Health claims on food packages are often misleading and false. The food manufactoring companies are well aware of modern day societies need to look at the packaging and the will often put misleading labels on their tins and wrappers to persuade you to buy them. Be careful with labels and always take a deeper look at the item.
Give it a try!
Step away from the usuals and try to cook something new this week. I know my family and I often have a general rotation of meals that we like and we will cook them over and over again, but every once in a while we will step outside the box and find a recipe we have never had before. Sometimes you can find new meal that you will then put in your general cooking rotation because you liked it so much. Take a picture of you all hard at work and send it in. You can send your pictures to jonah.feil@gshare.blackgold.ca.
Thursday was our last Trivia Challenge day for a while. Throughout the trivia days, we did animal trivia, sports trivia, movie trivia, and the final triva day was geography.
This week's winners were Mrs. Sauer, Adam, and Elijah
Stay tuned for more activities!
The playoffs are now done with the Spicy Cucarachas upsetting the round robin champions Los Tiradores in the semi finals and The Rizzlers beating Totem pole in the other semi final.
The final was incredibly close. 8-8 after regulation time and we needed to go to overtime, where the team who scored three points first won it all. The Rizzlers took a commanding lead after Zander sunk a 3 point shot (which in this game only counted for two points). The Spicy Cucarachas made a sot of their own and cut the lead in half. But The Rizzlers could not be stopped and they sunk the final point shortly after to win it all and take home the championship!
On Wednesday The Rizzlers and the staff (Mr. Feil, Mr Gourley, and Mr. Verge took on The Rizzlers. The Rizzlers put up a good fight but in the end the veteran play was too much for them to handle. Congratulations to the staff team!
