Did you know:
The Green Certificate Program provides students with opportunities to enter a variety of agriculture-related learning pathways as a part of their grades 9-12 school program and to earn up to 16 Grade 12 diploma credits and a credential (level 1 technician) that could lead to a career in agriculture or agribusiness?

We have been pretty lucky to be seeing more and more sun lately, but sometimes the winter months can be cold and dark (and let's face it - winter isn't over!).
Have you heard of the winter blues? They are a real thing and different from Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). They are a wave of low emotions that come with cold, dark days. Often you might want to sleep long, indulge in comfort food or spend more time on TikTok or watching Netflix than being present with people.
What can you do if you think you have the winter blues?
Let the light in. Get outside during the day. Open the curtains or blinds. Get outside to get even a little sunlight.
Get physical. You don't need to go to the gym. Lap the school. Walk to the mailbox. Take your dog for a walk. Walk to the Rec Complex and back at lunch.
Try to keep a normal sleep schedule. Oversleeping can actually worsen the symptoms. So don't overdo sleeping in!
Give yourself a pat on the back - you're doing great! Some days it just seems impossible to get anything done. Today, focus on just one thing that you can do and celebrate when you complete it!
Over the course of semester two, we will be looking at different areas of wellness throughout the school. February is Random Acts of Kindness month and so we will feature some ideas around that area. Here at TJSHS, Mrs. Hrytsak is our wellness coordinator and Mr. Feil will be stepping up as wellness lead for semester two. Stay tuned for more wellness features and challenges~
Random Acts of Kindness
What is a random act of kindness?
Giving your best self to others without expecting anything in return. You are just being kind to someone without the expectation that they will return the favour one day.
Some examples of an act of random kindness would be..
Bringing a friend or colleague their favourite warm beverage in the morning out of the blue
Pay for the person behind you's coffee in the drive through at Tim Hortons
Shoveling your neighbour's sidewalk
Activities you can try
Colouring pages (younger children)
Bingo Cards (adults)
Bingo Cards (students) - We will be providing these to the students on Monday, February 6
Sharing your story
Please share with us a time where you were shown a random act of kindness by someone. Fill out this form and your story may be shared in the next newsletter.

Where - Thorsby Recreation Complex
TJSHS is starting a 3 on 3 Basketball Intramural at lunch for the Junior and Senior High kids. Students just need to sign up with a group of three, come up with a name, and then compete.
Games will be 15 minutes long and will take place during certain lunch hours.
Participation is key! I am hoping that as many students as possible will sign up with a team.
Winning team will win spirit points for their house and will get to play against the 'Dream team' (the staff team).
Sign up on the sign up sheets in the crash area.
Good luck!
