It seems like only yesterday I came to the school to meet the staff, knowing that I would be spending about six weeks in Mr. Dykstra's stead. I want to express my appreciation for the welcome that I received upon arriving, both from the students and the community. While it is said that once one has left, "A person can never go home", there have certainly been comforting pieces being back in Thorsby. It would seem that I will get to enjoy these comforts a bit longer as yesterday I received the news that my stay will be extended until the end of spring break.
As I thought about this I considered what this will look like over the next little while. January is an important month with Diplomas, finals and midterms all converging prior to our first formal reporting period and of course, term changeover. Please take a look through the information below to guide you through these next couple of weeks. You will find:
Information on good study habits
Course change information
Exam schedules
Reminders on forms to be filled out for students to leave campus after exams (study hall available for those who wish to stay)
There are also some great pictures of our students doing what they do best! Showing off their skills, hard-won in the process of learning! All the best this January and we both complete a phase of school and renew a calendar year! As with all things, "Every new beginning comes from another beginning's end." Looking forward to enjoying both beginnings and endings with all of you over the next few weeks!
Respectfully,
Justin Klaassen
Creating Good Study Habits
Breathe and stretch as you study: breathing techniques are one of the quickest and easiest ways to relieve tension in the body and calm the mind.
Become a pro at time management: take short breaks after 45 minutes of studying and then resume.
Cut out distractions: put your social media and other distractions in another room.
Take breaks outside.
Get your heart pumping: this will help you focus when you resume studying!
Talk it out: study with a classmate
Make bedtime a priority: a good night’s sleep goes a long way!
Get your study snacks right: avoid caffeine and high sugar content.
Start a routine two weeks before your exams... so - now!
New Year’s Resolutions: Healthy Habits Stick!
Start small: Trying to get active? Start with 10 minutes & then add more time as you become more invested or start with 5000 steps and build up!
Set clear intentions: We are more likely to follow through on something if it is planned beforehand.
Celebrate small wins: Progress is progress! Way to go!
Surround yourself with supporters: When we have people working with us or encouraging us, we tend to engage more! Create challenges within households or with friends!
