This week, the students enjoyed working with the book 'Twas the Night Before Thanksgiving by Dav Pilkey, participating in several engaging activities. They performed a reader's theater, which helped bring the story to life and improve their fluency. In addition, they identified key story elements, such as the characters, setting, problem, and solution, to deepen their understanding of the narrative. The students also practiced retelling the story through pictures, allowing them to creatively summarize the events. To build their language skills, they identified nouns, adjectives, and verbs from the text. It was a fun and interactive way to enhance their reading and grammar skills!
This week in Art, the students did a step-by-step drawing and watercolor painting of a scarecrow, inspired by the book The Scarecrow by Beth Ferry. They carefully followed instructions to sketch out the basic shapes of the scarecrow, focusing on proportions and adding details like a patchwork straw hat, triangular eyes, and crayon water resist for the straw. Once their drawings were complete, they used watercolor techniques to bring their scarecrows to life, practicing blending colors for the background sky and adding texture with layered brushstrokes to mimic straw. The students did a fabulous job, creating vibrant and detailed pieces!
Congratulations to our 3A friends who flew to Canada this week by reading 500 minutes in our Amazing Race home reading program. Well done 3A readers!
