This week in Language Arts, we began a mini snowman unit based on the Snowmen at Night by Caralyn Buehner. After listening to the story, the students worked on activities to reinforce their comprehension skills. They used a graphic organizer to identify the beginning, middle, and end of the story, as well as, completed a story elements activity. The students also worked on a "making words" activity to build vocabulary. Lastly, they wrote a paragraph about three things they think their snowman would do at night. It was a fun and engaging way to apply their comprehension skills!
This week in Science, our Grade 3 students created models of the Earth using plasticine to represent its layers, including the land and water on the crust, the mantle, outer core, and inner core. Once their models were complete, the students used fishing line to carefully slice open their creations, revealing the different layers inside. This hands-on activity helped them visualize and understand the Earth’s structure in a fun and engaging way!
In Art this week, the students created "Beautiful Baubles" to decorate the foyer for the Winter Concert. They painted the baubles with watercolour, using "analogous" colours—groups of three colours next to each other on the colour wheel. After that, they added pine branches with oil pastels to make the baubles look like they were hanging from a tree. The artwork turned out beautifully and is now on display for everyone to enjoy!
Congratulations to our 3A friends who flew to the next country by reading 500 minutes in our Amazing Race home reading program. Well done 3A readers!
