This week, our class had a sweet time exploring figurative language using Peeps marshmallow candies! After watching a video about how Peeps are made, students filled in a five senses graphic organizer to describe what Peeps look, taste, smell, sound, and feel like. Using words like squishy, sweet, crunchy, and yellow, they brainstormed vivid sensory descriptions. We then learned about figurative language, focusing on similes and hyperboles. To wrap up the activity, each student created a My Peeps Figurative Language booklet and wrote two similes and two hyperboles using their descriptive words—for example, “The Peep was as yellow as the sun” or “This Peep is so sweet it could fill a whole candy store!”
Last week, students learned about haiku poetry through a fun spring-themed writing project. After choosing a topic from a list of spring ideas, they brainstormed words and imagery using a planning chart.
They then drafted their haikus, making sure to follow the 5-7-5 syllable structure. Using a checklist, they revised and edited their poems before creating a good copy for our spring bulletin board.
This activity helped students strengthen their descriptive writing, build syllable awareness, and practice the writing process. Their haikus turned out so well!
Students worked in small groups to design and build their own Rube Goldberg Machines. The challenge was to create a chain reaction using simple machines and everyday materials to complete a task in a fun, creative way.
They were assessed on teamwork, creativity, understanding of science concepts, presentation, and a final reflection. It was a hands-on project that brought learning to life — with lots of trial, error, and laughs along the way!
This week, the students created adorable bunny portraits using upside-down cardboard plant pots as the base. With paint, paper ears, googly eyes, and a few fun extras, each bunny came to life with its own personality!
This project was a great way to celebrate Easter, allowing students to express their creativity and have fun while making something festive and unique. Our bunny gallery is now proudly displayed in the hallway, full of charm, colour, and creativity.
A big thank you to Mrs. Goulding for baking egg and baby chick cookies for our class to decorate! The students had so much fun adding icing and sprinkles—and even more fun eating them. We’re so grateful for your time and thoughtfulness!
We celelbrated the birthdays of three 3A friends in the past two weeks.
Happy Birthday!
