This week, our class participated in The Great Kindness Challenge to encourage students to spread kindness in meaningful ways. Each day, we focused on a different aspect of kindness, from self-love to caring for our families and classmates. Here’s a look at how we embraced kindness this week!
Monday: Kindness to Ourselves
We started the week by practicing self-kindness through a creative activity called the "I Am" Self-Affirmation Poster. Each student reflected on their unique strengths and positive qualities, completing the sentence "I am..." with words that describe them. It was wonderful to see their confidence grow as they filled their posters with words like "kind," "brave," "helpful," and "strong."
Tuesday: Kindness to Our Families
On Tuesday, we focused on showing kindness at home. The students wrote acrostic poems using the word FAMILY, describing what family means to them. They also wrote "Just a Happy Note to Say" messages—small, thoughtful notes filled with kind words and encouragement. The best part? They got to hide them around the house as little surprises for their loved ones!
Thursday: Kindness to Our Classmates
On Thursday, we read The Invisible Boy by Trudy Ludwig and discussed the importance of including others. Students answered questions using evidence from the story and brainstormed ways to be kind to classmates, like inviting someone to play or sit with them at lunch. They also created Invisible Kid Comic Strips, showing a character gaining color as they were shown kindness. It was a great reminder that small acts of kindness make everyone feel valued!
Friday: Kindness to Our Community
To wrap up our kindness challenge, we focused on spreading kindness in our community. The students decorated coffee sleeves with uplifting messages and colorful designs for a local coffee shop. Their creative and thoughtful designs will brighten someone’s day with a warm cup of kindness!
On Thursday, our class had fun participating in the Rocks & Rings program during PE! Students learned the basics of curling through interactive games using special indoor curling equipment. They practiced aiming, teamwork, and strategy while sliding the rocks across the gym. It was a great way to try a new sport and enjoy some friendly competition!
Congratulations to our 3A friends who flew to the next country by reading 500 minutes in our Amazing Race home reading program. Well done 3A readers!
