This week in Language Arts, we began a research project on the Arctic fox. Each student was given a page of informational text to support their research. As a class, we read through the material and highlighted important facts about the Arctic fox’s habitat, diet, appearance, adaptations, and young. Students also used QR codes to watch videos about the Arctic fox, which allowed them to add additional interesting facts to their research. Throughout the project, we focused on reading comprehension strategies, informational text analysis, and developing technical vocabulary related to the Arctic fox.
Number Lines to Model Multiplication and Division
Students worked with partners to explore multiplication and division using number lines. They practiced modeling multiplication as repeated addition and division as repeated subtraction, building a strong understanding of these concepts through hands-on learning!
The students really enjoyed having the opportunity to go snowshoeing on Wednesday. The newly fallen snow and mild weather made for excellent conditions. We practiced the basics such as putting on and taking off snowshoes, turning, going backwards, getting up from a sitting position, walking and running. The students also had fun playing a few games, such as Follow the Leader, while wearing snowshoes.
