This week, Ms. Angela from the MHCB team introduced Captain McFinn Explores Kindness, a program that helps students develop social-emotional skills like empathy and making positive choices. In our first session, students discussed kindness, shared ideas, and explored ways to be kind at school, home, and in the community. They were eager to participate and had great insights!
We look forward to more sessions and growing as kind, compassionate individuals. Ask your child what they learned about kindness this week!
On Pink Shirt Day, our class celebrated the theme "Let Kindness Grow" by creating a colourful collaborative bulletin board. After brainstorming ideas, each student completed the sentence "I can make kindness grow by..." and wrote their response on a flower they traced and cut out. Together, they decorated the bulletin board to look like a beautiful kindness garden, making it bright and cheerful. A big thank you to Mrs. Goulding for the delicious pink cake pops!
After reading Don't Need Friends by Carolyn Crimi, our class discussed the qualities that make a good friend. We then analyzed the poem Friends by Jessica Crum, examining how each stanza’s lines work together to create an image around one main idea. Using a web and bracket chart, students brainstormed activities they enjoy with friends and used their ideas to write their own poems following the same format as Friends. To complete the project, students memorized and presented their poems to the class, building confidence as they shared their work with their peers.
We celelbrated the birthdays of four 3A friends this week.
Happy Birthday!
