This week, our class had a blast creating "Monster Selfies"! Students followed a guided drawing to design their own monsters, adding imaginative touches like antennas, horns, and unique hairstyles to give each monster its own personality. Once their designs were complete, students used chalk pastels to color their monsters, learning shading and blending techniques to bring them to life with vibrant color. This activity encouraged creativity while helping students practice following directions and exploring art techniques. Their final masterpieces are bursting with personality, showcasing both their artistic skills and vivid imaginations—such fun and expressive monster portraits!
Our class recently dove into a creative geography project by designing “Barefoot Island” maps! Using the outline of a foot as the shape of their island, each student imagined a unique world filled with features like roads, houses, water areas, and symbols for special landmarks. Each map includes essentials such as a title, compass rose, and a detailed key to help readers understand their island. Students also labeled various features and added their name and date as the map’s creator. To wrap up, they wrote two true statements about their island, using cardinal directions to describe the locations of different features. This project was a wonderful way to combine creativity with geography, helping students practice spatial awareness and map-making skills!
This week, students explored the importance of bones in a fun, hands-on way by imagining what life would be like without them! In our "Skeleton Hand" activity, they combined science and art by first tracing their own hands and then drawing "see-through" bones to create a realistic skeleton hand. This project was a creative way for students to learn about the structure and function of bones while crafting their very own skeleton artwork!
Halloween was a hit in our classroom! The students had a fantastic time dressing up in their costumes, bringing a fun and festive spirit to the day. They rotated through a variety of Halloween-themed centers, enjoying activities that sparked their creativity and teamwork. A special thank you to Mrs. Goulding for the delicious cookies, which were a big treat for everyone!
A huge thank you to Evie and her mom for the thoughtful Halloween treat bags! The students were thrilled with the surprise, and it added an extra layer of fun to our celebrations.
