The students learned a new math game this week called Place Value Knockout. In this two-player game, each player begins with counters and four dice. On their turn, a player rolls the dice to create a four-digit number. They then place their counters on the corresponding place value squares (thousands, hundreds, tens, and ones) of the playing board. The winner is the player who has placed the most counters on the board by the end of the game.
This week, our class explored the water cycle, learning how water moves through evaporation, condensation, precipitation, and collection. We discussed how the sun heats water during evaporation, turning it into vapor, which then cools to form clouds in the condensation stage. The students were excited to learn that when clouds become heavy, precipitation occurs as rain, snow, or hail. Finally, we explored how water collects in lakes, rivers, and oceans, restarting the cycle. The students enjoyed colouring water cycle diagrams and listening to a catchy song that helped them remember each part of the cycle!
Congratulations to our 3A friends who flew to Canada this week by reading 500 minutes in our Amazing Race home reading program. Well done 3A readers!
