WHOLE SCHOOL
WHOLE SCHOOL
Dear Global Jaya Community Members,
In the coming weeks, GJS students will engage in iReady (for Years 2 -10) and CAT 4 testing (for Years 5, 7 and 10). These two standardized assessments provide insight into student growth and development while providing our teachers with insights to determine how best to support our student’s learning.
I-Ready is an online program for reading and/or mathematics that will help your student’s teacher(s) determine your student’s opportunities for growth, personalize their learning, and monitor progress throughout the school year. The i-Ready Diagnostic is an adaptive assessment that adjusts its questions to suit your student’s needs. Each item a student sees is individualized based on their answer to the previous question. For example, a series of correct answers will result in slightly harder questions, while a series of incorrect answers will yield slightly easier questions.
The Cognitive Abilities Test, Fourth Edition (CAT4) is an online assessment designed to help students and their teachers understand how they learn and their academic potential. It assesses how students think in areas that are known to make a difference in learning. Tasks involve thinking about shapes and patterns (Non-Verbal Reasoning), words (Verbal Reasoning), and numbers (Quantitative Reasoning) and some questions are answered by mentally generating and transforming visual images (Spatial Ability).
Both the i-Ready and CAT4 assessments cannot be studied for. We ask parents for their support in explaining to their children the importance of these assessments in supporting their ongoing development and learning. To be at their best, the students must come well rested on their test days, having had a good breakfast and believing that they will put forth their best effort to answer all questions to the very best of their ability.
Warm regards,
Cory Carson, Head of School
On Monday, December 4th, please note that we will be holding our 4th professional half-day of the school year. Students will be dismissed at 12:00 noon as teachers prepare for an afternoon of further discussions and collaborations as we develop UDL next steps and prepare our well-being action research survey launch.

SECONDARY SCHOOL
Dear Global Jaya Secondary Community,
As we approach the final few weeks of school before the end of semester one, I encourage our parents to take time to check in with your students on their academic progress so far. This is a busy time of year, and it's important to make sure that your children are managing their time and keeping up with their classwork. Take time at dinner to help your children reflect on each class and make sure they know what assignments are on the horizon and that they have allotted enough time to complete their tasks. If you feel that your child is struggling to keep up with school work, schedule an appointment with our social emotional counselors to discuss ways to help your children balance their work load.
Sincerely,
Dr. Howard Menand, Secondary Principal
Updates from Bu Di, our College Counselor
Nov 20-Dec 6: 1on1 Subject Selection (student offline and parents join online)

Campus Community Building
We have started a new tradition at Global Jaya School–Open Mic. Last Friday, we held our second Open Mic during lunch, and it was a real pleasure to see students from years 9 and 10 performing music for their classmates and teachers to enjoy. Not only were the performances impressive, the result was a positive sense of school community. Thank you to Ibu Abigail and Ibu Widy for organizing this event, and thank you to our student performers.
iReady Preparation: On November 14, we provided our parents with an information session to learn more about the role of iReady testing at Global Jaya. Here is a link to the slides presented at this session. We encourage our parents to help support their students on this diagnostic test by reminding them to do their best on the exams. In the Secondary school, the exams will take place from November 28th to December 8th during students’ MYP Core classes.
Course Selection Evening
Thank you to all of the students and parents who attended our course selection evening on November 15. Your participation in this session helps us ensure that we are able to support your children with their educational journey through making informed course choices. For year 8 and 10 students, course selection will take place over the next few weeks. Our goal is to make sure that parents and students make informed decisions about the courses they will select for next year. And to help families with discussions at home, here are links to the resources shared with you on Wednesday evening: Year 8 Course Selection Presentation & Year 10 Course Selection Presentation. Finally, please contact the school to set up a meeting with a member of the leadership team if you still have questions or need clarification on next steps.

Global Jaya Parent Association, in collaboration with the Green School Committee, is proud to hold our very first Sustainability Session For Parents event on Friday, November 24 th, 2023.
Numerous activities will be offered for Global Jaya parents to join. We start with a pre-event of Clean Up Day that will be conducted on Saturday, November 18 th, 2023, for year 5 to year 12 students located near Bani Umar, Graha Raya Bintaro.
This will be followed by an interactive talk session about “Air Pollution and Its Impact on Health”, led by our respected speaker, Dr. Karina Rusdah from Good Practice Clinic, in the Secondary Multi-Purpose Room (MPR) in building B on the 3rd floor. Our session focuses on how air pollution affects our health, what we can do to minimize exposure, understanding air quality, and the importance usage of face masks and air purifiers will be discussed during this one-hour session from 9:00 – 10:00.
From there, parents will have the opportunity to participate in our tree-planting activity around campus. Tree planting is known to have many benefits to help our environment, owing to the fact that trees purify the air and combat climate change, in addition to protecting against flood and water pollution. Trees are also proven to ease the mind during stressful times.
While this event is free of charge, should you wish to make a voluntary donation to the Green School Committee, cash donations can be made on the day. Let’s get involved in making our world a better, greener and healthier place for generations to live in starting from this event by filling out the form on this link, Parent Sustainability Register, before Wednesday, November 22nd 2023.
