WHOLE SCHOOL
WHOLE SCHOOL
Dear GJS Community Members,
On Thursday and Friday of this week, Global Jaya opened up it's doors for the IB Southeast Asia Summit. There were nearly 250 visitors on campus along with several important dignitaries and representatives from the IB. The event was an opportunity for educators from non-IB schools to learn about the benefits of an IB curriculum. More importantly, it was a real honor for our school to have been selected to host this event as it demonstrates the strength of Global Jaya as an IB school and our commitment to preparing our students to succeed beyond the classroom.
Looking into next week, we have our next Open Day on November 22. Open Day allows our school to meet with prospective families who are interested in joining the Global Jaya community. If you know anyone interested in becoming part of the Global Jaya network, encourage them to attend Open Day. Additionally, we have arranged for all of our coaches, 18 in total, to take Level 2 First Aid training on November 23 and 24. As a school, knowing that the safety of your children is our priority, it's important for us to have first responders on campus who can assist our students in the case of an accident.
We hope everyone enjoys the wellbeing weekend, and, as always, we appreciate your support.
Warm Regards,
Howard Menand, Head of School

PRIMARY SCHOOL
Dear Primary Parents,
This week was short but meaningful as we took some time to honor Heroes’ Day and prepare for the upcoming wellness break. This break is essential for both teachers and students, allowing everyone to recharge and return with renewed energy for the remainder of the busy term. We encourage you to take this opportunity to practice wellness as a family and carry out activities such as spending time outdoors (weather permitting), practicing mindfulness, engaging in puzzles, coloring, deep breathing or even setting aside time for family discussions.
We are also excited to share a community-driven initiative supported by the Student Council called Golaah, which is partnered with Hope Worldwide Indonesia. Golaah focuses on gathering donations in the form of books, clothes, shoes, toys, and other essential items, which are then distributed to less privileged families. If you’d like to contribute, you may drop off items in the designated donation box at the Primary Plaza.
Next week, we cheer on our Year 6 students as they set off to camp for their study tour. We wish them all the best on this exciting adventure and look forward to hearing about the memories and learning experiences they’ll bring back. Additionally, we’re excited about the upcoming Year 4 assembly and look forward to seeing the creativity and teamwork our students will showcase.
Lastly, as the wet season is upon us, we often see a rise in common colds and coughs, which can impact school life and attendance. We encourage our community to prioritize health, rest, and hydration and to take preventive measures where possible to stay well during this season.
Kind Regards,
Lavesa Devnani, Primary Principal

SECONDARY SCHOOL
Dear Global Jaya Secondary Community,
The last ten days have been filled with exciting and meaningful events. From the Halloween maze and movie night to Global Connect and Year 10 Options Night, we are committed to providing opportunities for our students and their parents that serve various purposes, from building community to helping students make informed decisions. GJS is always in motion, continually seeking the best practices and strategies to keep our community vibrant and to offer the support needed.
From Monday to Wednesday, our Year 9 to Year 12 students and their parents participated in Global Connect, an event that welcomed over 85 local and international university representatives to our campus. This three-day gathering offered invaluable opportunities for research and conversation, helping students explore a wide range of options for their futures.
On Wednesday, our students attended two career sessions of their choice from 16 options, led by alumni and parents eager to share their insights and experiences. Additionally, a session by Crimson focused on "The Importance of Early Preparation for Top University Admissions," alongside scholarship information from the Ministry of Education, added overall value to the event.
As part of Global Connect, Year 7 and Year 8 students were invited to attend a book talk with Ibu Dona Arsinta. This meaningful experience encourages a love of reading, fosters critical thinking, and allows students to engage with new ideas and perspectives.
These initiatives reflect our strong commitment to supporting our students on their journey to university. A heartfelt thank you to Ibu Elzie, Pak Edi, Ibu Dian, Ibu Sheila, and everyone involved, including parents, teachers, and alumni, for organizing such a successful and important learning opportunity!
Sincerely,
Nelsy Saravia, Secondary Principal

On November 8, we participated in another successful event organized by the StuCo. Our talented students planned an evening filled with friendship, laughter, and fun. The Parent Association enhanced the experience by organizing vendors to offer delicious food, making the occasion even more enjoyable. Additionally, they volunteered to assist our teachers in supervising the activities, ensuring the safety and well-being of our students. This was truly a community effort to support the StuCo's initiatives. A heartfelt thank you to everyone involved, and congratulations to our Student Council!
On Friday, November 8, our university counselors, Ibu Dian and Ibu Sheila, held a comprehensive information session for Year 10 parents. The presentation outlined the journey ahead for students and parents as they prepare for university, highlighting the support the school will provide. It covered next steps and ways we will collaborate to support our students. As always, our parents responded enthusiastically with their presence and questions. Thank you for your continued engagement!
On Wednesday afternoon, and after Global Connect, Y10 parents and students attended the long-awaited 'Options Evening.' This event provided essential information to help families begin important discussions about the subject areas students need to focus on as part of the Diploma Programme. Meaningful conversations unfolded, allowing each piece of the puzzle to fall into place and shape the path for each student as they prepare for next year.
As always, our commitment remains to provide the necessary support and to journey alongside our students. A heartfelt thank you to our DP coordinator, Pak Ram, for organizing the event, to our teachers for their preparation, and to our parents for joining us. Exciting times lie ahead!
At GJS, we consider all our members to be lifelong learners. To offer high-quality education, we provide constant and meaningful opportunities for all our teachers and staff to keep developing their professional skills and knowledge. This is why professional days are so important.
Following our data-driven culture, all our teachers have recently been involved in IB workshops based on the needs of our students, and this week, I had the opportunity to join a seminar about Adaptive Schools. This training provides us with strategies to foster collaboration and enhance communication within our teams. By embracing these principles, we can continue working on creating an even more supportive and effective learning environment for both teachers and students. At GJS, we teach by example: "Teachers who invest in their own learning inspire their students to do the same." – Anonymous.

Dear Global Jaya Community,
Heartbreak in the Finals: A Hard-Fought Battle Ends in Penalty Drama for GJS Varsity Boys Soccer Team
This past Saturday, Global Jaya School’s varsity boys soccer team faced off against ACS Jakarta in a final match that was nothing short of exhilarating. Despite a tough and frustrating outcome, the match showcased the heart, skill, and relentless effort of our players and coaching team.
The game began with ACS taking an early lead, scoring the first goal in the opening minutes. However, Global Jaya School (GJS) remained resilient, pushing hard to find an equalizer. Just before half-time, our players managed to level the score, showing impressive determination and teamwork. The team returned from the break with newfound intensity, implementing their primary style of play, which saw them quickly gain control of the match. GJS surged ahead, and in a remarkable display of skill, they were soon leading 3-1.
However, ACS refused to back down, staging a strong comeback and eventually tying the game at 3-3 before the end of regulation time. The match then moved into extra time, where GJS once again took the lead with a thrilling goal, making it 4-3. But in the final moments of extra time, a scramble in our box allowed ACS to score, leveling the game yet again at 4-4.
The championship would ultimately be decided by a penalty shootout. Both teams stepped up with composure, but in the end, ACS edged out GJS, winning 4-3 on penalties. It was a heartbreaking finish for our team, but one that underscored the fierce competition and spirit of the game.
As Athletic Director, I am incredibly proud of our players and their commitment throughout the season. They played with passion, ending the season without a single defeat during regular time. A huge thank you to our dedicated coaches, Pak Alwan and Pak Casey, for pushing the team to new levels and inspiring them to perform at their very best. Their guidance was instrumental in helping the players develop and achieve incredible performances.
While this year’s title may have slipped away, the determination and growth we’ve seen from this team give us every reason to believe that next year, the championship will be ours!
As part of Season 2, our varsity basketball teams (boys and girls) will compete on November 21st at SPH-KV. If you see our basketball players, be sure to wish them luck! Go Hawks!
Go Hawks! Pak Alex
