WHOLE SCHOOL
Dear GJS Community Members:
Our football pitch and running track renovation have significantly progressed since our last update. Surveying work and the necessary earth moving, digging, and leveling have given way as trenches lined with gravel and geotextile are now being prepared for the laying of water lines and drainage ducts.
The Tribune is the perfect vantage point from which to view the work undertaken to create safer, more durable, and more easily maintained recreational grounds for our students, faculty, and community.
Warm Regards,
Cory Carson, Head of School
Tuesday, May 14th is our next PL half-day, please note K - Year 11 students will dismiss at 12 noon.
PRIMARY SCHOOL
Dear Primary Parents,
Two weeks ago, our students engaged in creating a masterpiece from recycled materials for the Extraordinary Earth Project led by the Junior Green School Committee. While all the student-created artworks were unique, the following were selected as standouts. Congratulations to classes Kindy, 4A, and 6A. See the pictures below.
The Extraordinary Earth Project challenged our students to explore their creativity while promoting environmental consciousness. By repurposing common household items, they transformed the ordinary into the extraordinary, reminding us all of the importance of reducing waste and reusing materials.
As we approach the month of May, the energy at our school is palpable. Students and teachers alike are making that final push toward the finish line of the academic year. With just a few weeks remaining, we continue to maintain the excitement in teaching and learning. Next week, students in Years 3-6 will have an opportunity to showcase their artistic and musical talents through Open Mic. Information regarding this will be shared with the students.
We wish all the best to Year 5 students as they prepare for their upcoming Action Camp next week and our Year 6 students who will engage in the School Based Exams.
Kind Regards,
Lavesa Devnani, Primary Principal

SECONDARY SCHOOL
Dear Global Jaya Secondary Community,
"If you can't fly then run, if you can't run then walk, if you can't walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward." – Martin Luther King Jr.
This is the time of year for our students to dig deep. While our end-of-year break is only five weeks away, we have much work to do between now and June 14th. We encourage our students to put forth their best effort and to remember that their success results from consistency and focus, along with maintaining a sense of balance. At the same time, we don't always experience the success we strive for, but we should learn from these setbacks. If you want to learn more about developing resilient individuals, check out the book recommendation below.
Sincerely,
Dr. Howard Menand, Secondary Principal
Are you wondering how to help your children develop a sense of resilience? How can you teach your children to bounce back from setbacks and failure? Failing Forward: Turning Mistakes into Stepping Stones for Success by John C. Maxwell offers insights and advice on developing skills and strategies for success. More importantly, the idea of failing forward, also known as resilience, is an important skill we work to teach Global Jaya students as IB learners.
Resilience is an important ATL Skill (Approaches to Learning) that includes helping students to:
Bounce back after adversity, mistakes, and failures
Practice failing well
Practice dealing with disappointment and unmet expectations
Practice dealing with change
Knowing that our students work on Failing Forward means that they will be well prepared for future challenges of life once they leave Global Jaya. Finally, while watching our children struggle in the moment is not easy as parents, we need to remember the life lessons and benefits gained from these instances of personal challenge and struggle.
