WHOLE SCHOOL
WHOLE SCHOOL
Dear Global Jaya Community Members,
Today, our one-page Friday news bulletin - GLOBAL Insights - launches to inform our community members of upcoming important school-related activities and will focus on the coming two weeks of activity and engagement by GJS students, faculty, staff and parents both inside and outside of the classroom, as well as on and off campus. This weekly update message will be distributed on Friday afternoons in the weeks between our end-of-month KONTAK newsletter publications.
Whereas KONTAK is archival, capturing and celebrating events that have already occurred during the previous month, GLOBAL Insights focuses on the weeks ahead, ensuring our community is updated with what will happen in and around the GJS campus.
Warm regards,
Cory Carson, Head of School
We launch our Air Quality Response Policy on Monday, October 23, 2023. We recognise that local air quality fluctuates greatly in quality both day to day and even during the course of a single day. We further recognize poor air quality has a negative impact on all of us; certain members of our community manage ailments that make them even more sensitive to air pollutants and are at greater health risk.
With the implementation of this policy, we aim to:
Clarify data sources to allow for reliable Air Quality monitoring
Align our practices with other schools in the Tangerang Selatan / DKI Jakarta area
Educate our students and faculty on how to reduce the risk posed by occurrences of elevated pollution levels
Implement school-based actions that systematically manage our response to elevated pollution levels
We have used this past week to work on understanding with members of our faculty and staff and to develop habits for reporting and communicating air quality levels as we prepare for launch this week. We will continue to build awareness and develop understanding as our community members (students, faculty, staff and parents) actively participate in making decisions to protect their own health and well-being.
When it comes to mask-wearing, N95, KN95, and FFP2 masks are generally tested for 95% efficacy against the following airborne particles: PM10, PM2.5, bacteria, viruses (both large droplets and tiny aerosols), pollen, mould spores and household dust.
Parents are encouraged to stock masks in their child's bookbag/backpack so that they can be easily accessed if and when needed. Please note that mask-wearing will be encouraged, not mandated, and masks will not be supplied by GJS.
The full policy can be accessed by clicking HERE.

Our Year 6 students will be setting off on an educational study tour. This will be a three days and two nights stay in Yogyakarta. We wish them all the best.
October 27
Year 3 students will be sharing their learning by hosting the next assembly focused on the Central Idea "Human activities can alter the relationships found within biomes". Year 3 parents are welcome to watch and celebrate their children in the theatre on that day.

Year 5 students will take the National Assessment. There is no preparation needed. Please ensure your child has a good night sleep and a healthy breakfast the night prior to the Assessment. Please note that National Assessment assesses a school's performance. It does not assess the individual student. It is an adaptive format of assessment. The test becomes easier or harder depending on the students’ ability to answer the questions.
Upcoming Dates to Remember for Primary
November 8: Professional Learning 1/2 Day - AM ONLY Classes for Students
November 10: Reception Assembly/Local and Global National Heroes Day
We would like to celebrate the following students for their achievements:
Congratulations to our very own published author, Valerie Sitorus, from Year 2, for her illustrated story "The Magic Of Hi"
This book is all about kindness and acceptance. We join a charming caterpillar family of three as they embark on a journey to their new home in Lady Town. In this bustling new town, Sally, the young caterpillar, has to attend a new school where all her classmates are Lady Bugs!
Congratulations to Clea Primrose Karouw (Year 6A) for performing at a student concert event where she showcased her skills in drumming.
Clea could play and perform in front of larger audiences through practice and commitment. Well done Clea for being a risk taker, which definitely showed commitment and being able to manage her time between school and drum practices.
Congratulations to Kahf Lin Bellami (Year 1A) for joining Kidpublish - Story Telling Competition and receiving the silver award.
With a blend of cheerful gestures and expressive storytelling, Kahf captured the audience's hearts at the storytelling competition. Through his animated performance, he proves that sometimes it's the joy in the telling that truly sets a story apart.
Congratulations to Aimee Kirana Lukito (Year 3B) for also joining Kidpublish - Story Telling Competition.
Dazzling the audience with a captivating performance, Aimee's storytelling prowess shone through her striking gestures and expressive expressions. With a flair for emotional storytelling, she proved that the power of words is magnified when combined with the art of heartfelt expression.
SECONDARY SCHOOL
Dear Secondary Community,
Now that we are in Term 2, let me put some important upcoming items on your radar. To begin, students are in the process of completing assessments covering each of the four criteria for each subject area. In practical terms, expect your students to be busy and encourage them to use effective time management resources. One way parents can help out at home is to check the calendar in Managebac regularly. The calendar provides students with an overview of upcoming assignments so that they can effectively manage their time.
Also, we have some important evenings planned for our current year 8 and 10 students that everyone is encouraged to attend. On the evening of November 15th, students in year 8 and 10 will participate in either an MYP course selection or a DP course selection. This evening is an excellent opportunity for parents to be partners in their children's learning journey, so please save this date.
Sincerely,
Dr. Howard Menand, Secondary Principal

There will be a whole school character dress-up parade during Book Week to be held on Tuesday, 31st October, coinciding with Halloween. Students may choose to dress up for Book Week or Halloween. When considering their costume, please be aware that the following rules apply:
Students may not bring weapons to school (fake or otherwise)
The usual school uniform rules apply regarding the length of the outfit and how revealing the outfit is
Not too much gore, as we will be parading with our very youngest students.
Students may use a full face mask - but only for the parade itself - not for entering into or walking around school, as this is a child protection issue.
Students should start thinking about their outfits - but pay attention to these rules in order to avoid being sent home to get changed. Students are encouraged to see Ms Vicki with any questions they might have.
