WHOLE SCHOOL
WHOLE SCHOOL
Dear GJS Community Members,
Our students in years 2 to 10 have now completed the iReady assessment in reading and math. The assessment is important to our school because it provides useful data regarding our students current level in reading and math along with a sense of each student's strengths, weaknesses, and readiness for learning. Our teachers utilize a data dialogue process in order to better understand how to use the iReady results to support students in their classrooms. Additionally, our students will take part in a goal setting process using the iReady data, and our teachers will be prepared to discuss the results with parents at the term 1 MSCs. Finally, as we did the last academic year, we will upload to Managebac the overall results in June when our students have completed all three iReady diagnostic assessments.
Warm Regards,
Howard Menand, Head of School

PRIMARY SCHOOL
Dear Primary Parents,
This week, the primary division was buzzing with excitement and activity! From house elections, to the creative flair of Blue Skies Day to the delicious fun of Cheesy Day, to sampling of Turkish Coffee, to the year 5 growth development program, there was something for everyone.
Next week, we will celebrate the International Literacy Day on September 9. Although Literacy Day is officially recognized on September 8th, we will mark the occasion with special events on Monday, including storytelling sessions by Pak Jake (our Secondary Film teacher), a Wishing Tree, a book donation drive, and a comic drawing activity.
During Snack and Lunch breaks, students can engage in a variety of activities listed below:
Storytelling Sessions: Join us for captivating stories shared by Pak Jake (our Secondary Film teacher).
Wishing Tree: Students and staff can make a wish for a library book by adding them to our Wishing Tree.
Book Donation Drive: Donate your gently used books to share the love of reading with others and help our Year 11 CAS students.
Comic Drawing Competition: Students can unleash their creativity by participating in a comic drawing activity. A special panel of judges will choose the best comics.
Kind Regards,
Lavesa Devnani, Primary Principal

Watch our students in action as they celebrate Blue Skies Day. Here are some pictures from today. Thank you to everyone who dressed up for the occasion, contributed to discussions around air quality and donated money to mark this important day. As a result of your generous donations, we raised Rp7.748500. The Green School Committee will use these funds to enact change at Global Jaya.
Our Year 5 students engaged in a Growth Development Program delivered by outside vendors. They learned about their changing bodies and how to cope up with the change.
Our Reception students are learning about healthy food and had the opportunity to make fresh cheese with Ibu Lasin. They engaged in the See-think-wonder strategy and made predictions about how the cheese would look like, feel and taste like. They ended the activity with a picnic in the park.
As part of the UOI, the Year 5 students are learning about culture. Ibu Lasin introduced them to Turkish culture and shared some of her customs of serving Turkish coffee. Our students were great risk-taskers. Their expressions say it all.
Proudly Celebrating our Students' Achievements
Congratulations to Elain Kustanto from Year 4B. Last August, she participated in the Ninja Dash competition held by Ninja Republic. She came out in 3rd place under the kids female category. What an achievement Elaine!

SECONDARY SCHOOL
Dear Global Jaya Secondary Community,
At GJS, we see education as a continuous journey where teachers play a crucial role in modeling learning. Our data-driven approach helps us identify growth areas, and our professional learning days, like the one on August 26, allow us to align our progress with the Strategic Action Plan.
During this week’s coffee morning, program coordinators gave a clear overview of the PYP, MYP, and DP continuum. Parents experienced our inquiry-based methods firsthand, and your questions provided valuable insights for our goal-setting process, which we incorporate into daily practices.
Following these events, our teachers guided students in setting their own goals. Students from Year 7 to Year 11 have begun reflecting on their ambitions for the school year and the ATL skills needed to achieve them. These goals, along with their first term academic progress, will be included in the upcoming report, offering a reflection point for any necessary adjustments.
If you haven’t already, please discuss these goals with your child and offer your support in setting challenging, achievable targets. We hope to see you at the upcoming events and activities.
Lastly, we kindly request your support in ensuring that your children are picked up by the school no later than 4:00 p.m. or as soon as their ASA finishes. At that time, all students must wait by security.
Sincerely,
Nelsy Saravia, Secondary Principal

Indonesian Batik - UNESCO Intangible World Heritage
As a new member of the GJS community and an expat who has lived abroad for nearly 16 years, one of the things I cherish most about settling into a new place is discovering the unique aspects that make it special. I must say, one of the traditions I’ve come to love at GJS is our Batik Fridays. Every Friday, seeing our students, teachers, and staff proudly wearing batik fills my heart with joy. It’s a beautiful display of pride and culture that speaks volumes—truly, a picture is worth a thousand words. Well done, GJS!
In the making
As always, the best part of my day is attending meetings where students take charge, running the agenda, and showcasing their creativity in organizing activities and functions for their classmates. It’s truly inspiring to witness their initiative and dedication. Currently, several groups of students are deeply engaged in the projects below. This is agency in its fullest expression! Stay Tuned.
